Virtual sparkles to Chanel for hyping their Black Satin nail polish so very well – and real sparkles to us for showing you how to make it…
You’ll need: 1 bottle of Wet & Wild black nail polish.
1 bottle of wine colored nail polish, any brand, with a little shimmer.
1 plastic chinese takeout lid
Step one: What was the big rule of 7th grade art class? Always mix dark colors into lighter colors. So. Pour out some of that wine colored polish onto the plastic lid. Go for about two tablespoons.
Step two: Dump a teaspoon of the black nail polish onto the plastic lid. Mix it around with the black nailpolish brush.
Step three: Keep going until you get that vampire blood color that you absolutely love. Then put it on your nails.

Step four:
Wave to Karl Lagerfeld from fingerless leather gloves. With your new Chanel inspired (okay, copied) nails, he will absolutely wave back.

Not Chanel, but here are my favorite black recipes, no mixing necessary:
Base coat- Wet & Wild black
Topper- Wet & Wild #415B- Denim Chrome (super dark irridescent navy)
Base Coat- W&W black
Topper- Maybelline Express Finish #180 Red Comet (transparent red w/ superfine red glittery flakes)

Just like the recipes from mid-90′s era YM (though they usually told how to mix the perfect shade of metallic pale blue – pour Delia*s metallic silver nail polish with a splash of Hard Candy’s Sky laquer).
Awesome!

Is it okay to wear just black, or will the fashionistas ‘tear apart’ my ‘horrible fashion sense’ like they so often do to people on TV? I kind of like just black. But next time I will try the vampire blood. Btw, how do you get rid of yellow nails induced by black paint? Is there a cheaper and more affordable way than dental whitening strips? Cannot afford.

Jay-Mie, don’t be afraid to rock your own style! If you like black, wear black.
Personally, I love dark sparkly navy blue – Cosmique, if Chanel still makes it.
And as for staining, use a good base coat. That limits the damage. And give your nails a break every so often, leaving them without polish.
