Michael Kors Fall '07 collection was aspirational in an unexpected way: audience members looked up at the Denver down parkas, silver fox hats, and elbow-length kidskin gloves and wished hard they were looking that chic in the bitter cold (alas, they weren't - as The Times Eric Wilson reports, everyone's in Montcler puffy coats instead). But while the clothes were surprisingly, refreshingly fun, something was odd on the runways - the models were smiling. We've all seen them do it backstage, at after parties, in teeny bathrooms at 2 am. But on the runway was a bit odd, especially since only two - Agyness Deyn and Coco Rocha - managed to convincingly grin at the cameras! The rest looked beautiful and chic, but hollow - the smile you get from a tidy neighbor at a cocktail party, or an old acquaintance you accidentally see on the street. Maybe that was the point, since Michael's clothes are notoriously scooped up at Scoop by those kind of girls and their mothers. Or maybe Anja Rubick and Vlada should have followed the lead of Irina, who realized that her sequin sheath dress may be perky, but she is most definitely not. View the smiles here - Stam's is also quite passable, though I could swear they all had a whitening job before they hit the runway.
