Is The New: Uggs and Pajama Pants?

Uggs have finally started fading, replaced by motorcycle stompers, horse riding boots, and Wellies lined with extra socks. But in their place comes another vision of slouch: flannel pajama pants in plaids and prints, flapping in the streets.

We've seen the pants in Starbucks, at the Angelika Cinema, outside Chanel in Soho, uptown by the Met, and yesterday, at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. The fashion transgressors wearing them are young (15 - 30), accessorized (a faux Louis, a real Stam, a boy with a Prada duffel), and usually paired with a cropped jacket and huge sunglasses. One blown-out blonde wore hers in Dean & Deluca with a Michael Kors cable knit tunic and - despite the weather - London Sole ballet flats.

The upside: the pants do compliment the Alaskan hunting vibe everyone's got with their trapper hats.

There was a girl in Pastis wearing black flannel ones yesterday at breakfast! She must have been 19 or 20, she was with her mother.

this is one of my pet fashion hates. so bad. i saw a woman walking her tiny yappy dog in notting hill the other day wearing peach silk PJs and uggs. GROSSSSS. get dressed people, even if it's just a pair of sweats. not a whole lot better, but just a tiny bit.

Gross. A great pair of jeans is just as comfortable as a pair of sweats or pj's... UGGS on the other hand are about a million times more bearable than heels at 6am when you're waiting for public transportation in the rain....

This look is big around my neighbourhood in Edinburgh. It's basically the rich female student uniform. Interestingly, they will sometimes throw on a big hipster belt on top of the sweats--perhaps they hope to distract us from the sweats/uggs. I figure, if you have time to accessorize, you might as well put on jeans or long skirt.

My new most hated trend is Uggs and Lululemon yoga pants. Come on people, you don't need to go all European and jump on every single fashion bandwagon. You look like the fashion equivalent of a gangbang!

print pants-- yikes!! quotes from stylist amy gordon of artfulwears.com:

Sometimes I take my fashion knowledge for granted but after two evenings out and seeing many women in print pants, I thought I might need to discuss this topic. Print pants are pretty much NEVER a good idea. Even when they were “in style” during the ’80’s, they were still UGLY! Particularly bad are loud floral prints or pants embroidered with little whales or palm trees. It just screams tacky and unsophisticated.

Please don’t confuse print pants with things like tweeds, houndstooth, or a muted pattern. Those are totally different. A muted pattern can act as a neutral and should not be confused with a print. Patterns look chic and sophisticated. Should you require clarification on this, I am MORE than happy to help.

If you do happen to have print pants in your closet, I highly recommend donating them to a charitable organization.
