Bitten by Sarah Jessica Parker: First Look

Everyone

Agree
PS – thanks to the tipster who emailed in and said they’re already trying to redesign the line because of the reaction. we doubt it’s true, but there’s still a little time until June 7th…

You people are the most stuck-up, shallow, snobbish bunch of individuals it has ever been my misfortune to read. I will not be returning to this site.
SJP's line, Bitten, is very versatile, comfortable, and well-made. I own several pieces myself. I have paid designer prices, only to have the clothing fall apart after two washings, and this was not the case here. You need to come down off your high-horse, and take a look at the real world, see how the other half lives.

Honestly, I can't believe that amount of negativity that bitten is receiving. any clothing line, basic or outrageous, that can allow me to buy $200 worth of clothes and come home with 10+ pieces compared to my usual 1-2 is great in my eyes ;)

I can't believe all the terrible comments that these women are saying re the Bitten line by SJP~!! I live in Canada and would love to see this line here and choose for myself what I need. The fact that the line is inexpensive does not mean it is no good. Not everyone can afford costly clothing and there has to be something out there for everyone. I think that she is just trying to do for the group of people that no one cares about especially the movie stars and rich people who can buy one dress for thousands of dollars. Give the girl a break people and if you don't like it go somewhere else and buy the expensive clothing that you can afford and make you all think that it makes you better than the rest of us. Remember -"Clothes Does Not Make The Man"

well, i guess this line is not made for everyone. my understanding is that the line is for those of us who are more concerned with price than making a fashion statement. I visited the manhattan store last night and most of the racks were bare by closing time but they will be receiving shipments every night.

personally i think that the line is fabulous. it doesn't have to be exciting! fact of the matter is that these pieces are wardrobe staples at cheap prices and i think they are extraordinary. add a little of your own flare to any of these things and they can be super trendy and stylish. i dont know why everyone is being so negative. this is a really positive project for sjp and i think it is classic rather than boring.

you know some people dont have the money to shop at A&E; and GAP (like me) and i think it's wonderful that she makes her clothes affordable for someone who can only afford jeans, t-shirts and cheap pay-less shoes...you all are a bunch of snobs.

As far as the Bitten "collection" in the aggregate is concerned, my asthetic evaluation of it is "meh". As a collection, it appears to lack focus, has a fair number of repetitive items. Admittedly, I have not seen these garments in reality, merely in posts on the internet, so perhaps the lackluster impression I have of the clothing from the photographs is belied by the overwhelming awesomeness of the garments when viewed in an actual (versus virtual) setting. Still, it appears as though the collection does have some nice pieces that would be flattering on a range of body sizes - I'm thinking of the tunic-y shirts and wild legged pants here in particular. Conversely, there are several items of clothing - the confounding fleece sweatpant shorts, the unfortunately abbreviated cargo capris, the blue camoflauge cargo pants - that I have a difficult time imagining as flattering any body type. I would say that this collection suffers from poor editing, and fails to address wardrobe concerns as far as work appropriateness, BUT that there are also strong individual pieces that could be versitile and charming additions to a woman's wardrobe.
However, what I do find genuinely disturbing about the whole collection is the level of self-congradulatory pretensiousness that seems to permeate the entire press release. The goals SJP espouses are a laudable enough business strategy. Sound business strategy does not a humanitarian make. Frankly, I'm just greatly perplexed as to how one convinces oneself that endorsing a line of clothing is a radically magnanimous gesture. Succienctly, I am offended, as someone with a limited clothing budget, by a celebrity posturing as though they are doing me a great favor by allowing me to purchase clothes they deem stylish. It reeks of hubris, and for this reason, I will not be purchasing anything from this line.

Hey I love it!!!!I think that most of you people who have commented are just being stupid and caring what the other commenters think about you.SJP is awesome!
  • Kelly
I agree that the line might be a bit muted but the concept is brilliant. After living in Manhattan for 10 years and working at Revlon Headquarters, I can honestly say that "anything goes" in fashion. There is no one rigid stylemaker; it's what you do with what you have that counts. I think SJP is amazing; coming from the midwest, working her tail off as a kid in NYC and making it big in theater first then films. She's only trying to help people find their own sense of style. I didn't always agree with her choices of style on SITC, but for sure, anything goes in Manhattan! Kudos to her for making this fly. I wish her all the best. Lighten up, ladies, and figure out how to enhance her new line with all your own personal touches and tchotchkes! Enjoy fashion for what it IS: originality and personal touches.

Most of you are incredibly rude people.
This line is for the not so wealthy. And if any of you have ever been to a mall, you would know that american eagle and the gap can be pricey. SJP is selling tshirts for seven to eight dollars. Not for twenty five to thirty like at the other stores. It is a nice line and People who can afford to buy everything, high end, that is nice for yuu. But don't be so stuck up to everyone else.
  • Jacquelyn
I loved one open cadigan! It was everything I dream of in a sweater. It had an unusual back and was kinda swingy - I loved it. Overall I was kina excited. I wear Lovely and it's Never let me down - everyone loves it. - Jackie

To the rude people that have commented... Just because something is not your style doesn't mean you have to be rude....Sarah you are amazing and thank you for thinking of those of us that aren't RICH. I love your positive attitude and those that are negative are to be ignored, you are doing something wonderful. Thank you....I am Canadian and want to see you clothes here. Sincerely.
  • Nancy
Ladies, calm down! I honestly don't believe this line of clothing is for everyone and probably will look better on the size 2 instead of the size 22, but why knock it until you've actually personally seen it? Steve and Barry's stores are usually found in outlet centers and while these clothes may not be the top of the line designer fashions, they are certainly more reasonably priced than most other brands. ps to Faran ... who ordered the whine? Get a life!
  • Sherry
Way too much negativity!!! I am ashamed for most of you women, you may dress real awesome but I am sure you are no joy to be around.

In the same way I refuse to think of a Thomas Kinkade painting as art, I refuse to think of Sarah Jessica Parker's collection to be fashion.
For a collection called 'Bitten' it sure as hell lacks any real bite. It's all so muted and predictable and it honestly looks like something you'd find a community college co-ed wearing after a rough night out.
It would have been nice for her to show a few more polished looks. Something a cash-strapped woman could wear to an office job or a night out that doesn't involve getting her hand stamped. Wardrobe basics, such as tees, jeans and shorts/capris are items you can find in any store at about the same price she's pitching them at.
That being said, I don't hate her line — given its purpose — but there's nothing there you can't find at K-Mart or Wal-Mart. And after browsing through the store locators, it seems you'll have a better shot at finding one of those than you will a Steve and Barry's.
But what if Bitten's maximum price been upped to just $25? What about $30? Would that dollar amount have given her collection a little more edge? A little more freedom of fabrics and offerings?
And why the need for necklaces and shoes and bags? Seriously? Overall, it just seems poorly thought out. Too many resources were spent on accessories and not enough on the actual clothing.
I hate to sound snobby about all of this since my salary in Ga. would put me at poverty level in NYC, but being someone of lesser means shouldn't mean you have lesser expectations of what you wear. If anything it should mean you have higher expectations. Trust me, it's not just about price. You take into consideration not only style, but how many seasons can you wear it? How long will the construction/fabric last? Where can you wear it? Office and play, or just play?
In brief (too late): A little more thought and a little less 'passion' could have saved this collection.
  • Elle
Wow, incredible!!! Someone comes up with an affordable line for people who live by a budget because they don't have $$$ and all you snobby fashionistas get all bitchy on SJP! Also, this is why women never move forward because there's always catty comments, nasty remarks and never any support or love...you'd never see men being this bitchy....STOP TEARING EACH OTHER DOWN~!

I must say after previewing the comments posted on this page that I am not surprised at the general coconscious, but somewhat disheartened. I consider myself to be quite a fasionista, enjoying primarily vintage clothes and upscale designers. I also consider Sarah Jessica Parker and more specifically her portrayal of Carrie Bradshaw on Sex in the City to be somewhat responsible for my fashion epiphany. It is however seemingly shallow to so closely associate a real person with a television character a mistake so many of you have previously made, so instead of making comparisons let us take this line for what it is. Perhaps to better understand Sarah Jessica's passion for this project one must look at her continuing effort to dissociate fashion with status. As much as I enjoy high fashion I can not deny the prevalence of snobbery within the business and from the consumer. It is also wise to consider Sarah Jessica Parkers upbringing. She grew up with eight siblings, forgive the girl for trying. In summary the purpose of the line essentially is to provide basic wardrobe staples for those who are otherwise unable to afford them.

    (but in store shopping only...)

Where is this clothing sold? On-line? I can't believe SJP never mentioned on Oprah how tobuy her clothes!!!??? I wanted to buy the Freak purse in grey.
  • K L
I watched Oprah and SJP this afternoon. I realy wanted to like SJP's line, but after trying really hard; I couldn't do it! I am grateful that diversity is the favored fashon now days! Us ladies can Thrift, shop, Friend swap, and do a little vintage and come up with MUCH better ideas of our own! We don't give ourselves enough credit! Its not WHAT we wear! It really is HOW we wear it! Lets celebrate our own creativity and stop filling SJP's Pocket book! directly quoting from the "star" herself; "There is not enough critical thinking"! and the Next woman you see on the street in her own afordable, expensive or whatever self made style look at her and say You Go Girl!
  • linda
Whatever all you negatives are crazy SJP clothes is great and affordable quit your bitching!
  • Valerie
I saw the line on Oprah today. I agree it's not "normal" SJP stuff, however I believe she feels she is doing everyday people a favor. I should be on a budget with my shopping, so I probably would buy a piece or two since the clothing does look comfortable and fitting for a stay at home mom who still likes to believe she is "with it".
  • Beth
so, where is it sold at, exclusively at Steve and Barry's? I've never even heard of that department store.
  • Wendy
    To Angelina:
I suggest you buy the Bitten line and use the money you save on an English class.
  • Angelina
I seen the clothes on Oprah today, I couldn't even see myself buying any of the clothes and I was trying so hard to like it, it was really boring just like what everyone on here is saying. I would rather pay $30.00 dollars at least I would be getting something I would wear, she should have made it under $40.00. I can get that clothing line from the TRASH and for FREE!!!!
  • jasmin
i think all you are shallow, just because it's an affordable line does not mean that it has bad quality, and it doesn't mean it will "disintegrates after two washings" It's all made out of the same materials. You can pay $160+ for a pair of buffalo jeans or you can pay $20 for a pair of the same quality maybe a little different style. If the jeans fit my lower half nicely then i dont really care about any certain style. I just saw her line on Oprah and I think it's nice. It's not glamorous, but it's not supposed to be, it's supposed to be a line of simple classical clothing you could wear to go shopping or go to work, or go out for dinner. Yeah it's similar to Gap and H&M; but what's so bad about that, it's cheaper then them. The models are NOT stick figures, on Oprah she had women ages ranging 21-61 with sizes 1-11 modeling her line, and they all looked great and it all fits nicely, and thats what's important. I just love SJP and I love that she had the opportunity to do high end fashion if she had wanted, but she decided to fallow S.Marbury and create chic affordable stuff and have them sold at steve and barry's. I admire her for doing this.
btw. I love that bag, and few of the dresses, and the business outfit (which i always wanted but since it wasn't a necessity I didn't feel like wasting 100+ on it, now I can get her suit for less then 40!!)
  • That's the misguided part: this collection has been presented to shoppers as the ONLY thing available to them that's not expensive.
Maybe SJP thinks so, since she hasn't shopped for herself in years, but you guys prove every day that there are tons of places for affordable, great clothing:
    Vintage stuff
    Target
    Urbans
    Gap
    H&M;
    American Eagle
    Topshop
    Aldo
    And on, and on...
SJP's line is poorly designed and it assumes you should be grateful that someone as "chic" as Sarah Jessica is suddenly opening up a whole world of fashion to you.
    The problem?
You've already opened up your own world of fashion, and you don't need a TV star from ten years ago assuming that until she came along with her dull, condescending clothing line, you were wearing burlap sacks with no hope of style and no sense of yourself.
It's insulting, and the clothes are unremarkable.
The most disappointing part is the fact that perhaps SJP is unremarkable too, at least in the way she can relate to normal, self sufficient, cool beautiful women.

I think it's brilliant!!! Not everyone can afford designer clothing. Chances are if you don't like the clothes you can afford to shop somewhere else. Get a grip!!!
  • The clothes are available starting June 10, though I obviously wouldn't recommend buying them.
  • Wendy
Where do you even find these clothes? Are they out yet?
  • Its amazing how much good quality clothing can actually cost now a days... You gotta know how to shop... And if most of you are like me, then you can turn 200 bucks into like 600.00 when shopping for clothes... I remember I bought 5 bras from victoria secrets and I only paid 32.00 for all five bras.. I shop around and get good quality clothing for about what Sarah sells... The more expensive clothing ur only paying for the label... My mom is a designer and a wonderful sewer... She can go and pick out a suit dress up for work and go to the fabric store and sew the same thing for only a small fraction of the price... This is good quality clothing which sarah is selling and you should look at where its manufactured and most of the time, if its USA made, its all natural cotton and its not expensive to make good quality clothing from it....
  • Judelle
I LOVE SJP's new clothing line. the clothes are young, chic, sexxy and veratile at the same time. Most importantly her line is affordable and varies in size for all women, nut just annorexic models, but also for real women with curves that are on a budget, you know the women that the fashion industry have forgotten about..
  • tonia
i like sjp clothes and the price is right!
  • tonia
i like sjp clothes and the price is right!
  • I think the clothes is okay for it's price. Especially if you are a single mother with limited funds for fashion.
Now about those forever21 comments.. 1 WORD---> ANOREXIC!!
I applaud SJP for her briliant idea!!!
  • Spanky Fartknuckle
I'm with Rusty...Just slap an SJP on a TURD and it will sell. Who knew that the term "casual wear" would come to mean "decrepit wear." Hell, I have a closet full of old crap that I haven't worn in 15 years. I'll just mix and match them and...TA-DAH, I'm a fashion designer...
  • Rusty Stiffhog
I could find better fasion at the Good Will store...But I guess people are dumb enough... to pay for crap with SJP on it...WTF
  • Arielle
I am totally on the fence about the SJP collection! I kind of wish it was more interesting. I looked at it yesterday and can't even remember any of the pieces. I guess that's a bad sign. Then again, I tend to have a rather basic wardrobe...
  • It will get even MORE boring once it gets out of a professionally photographed ad.
I like the grey dress/tshirt combo though
