Connect the Dots

dots.jpg
Greg emails in from PA to say “the Philly Gap is overflowing with the dotted dress…”

Meanwhile, more blue circles are getting style attention in New York and London.

Check out this Bodun raincoat, featured in the Post style section, at left…

Meanwhile, the Times UK has the same coat in their graphic print spread, but it’s styled quite differently…

Though the dot trend wasn’t crazy on the runway this season, we suspect it’s come back into play because of Marimekko. The famous print company has opened stores in the US and UK this year, and though their iconic dot pattern didn’t get copied on catwalks, their flowers certainly made an appearance at Oscar de la Renta… and now at Forever 21…

I tried on the blue circle dress at a gap in NC. It's honestly not that great. It is very thin, bordering on sheer. It also seemed cheaply made. A lot of the dresses on the rack already had broken straps and torn seams. This is just FYI for anyone think of going out of their way to get one.

I disagree with the above. I got the dress, it is decently made (the straps aren't broken but adjustable--they can be crossed at the back or straight). It's lined and not see through--even black tights are barely visible through it. I usually steer well clear of the gap, except for the Mouret/Design editions, but I got this. And I wouldn't wait for it to go on sale as it was basically sold out in the smaller sizes in NYC.

on trend? Bjork wore Bernhard Willhelm-designed dots at Coachella, but they were multi-hue instead of just blue...

Ooh. I have a pretty similar dress in almost the exact same print that I bought in a Zara in Spain last summer. So glad I get to bring it back for round 2!

Maybe they're thinking about bringing back the print too?

The dress isn't as opaque as one would hope, but it isn't as see-thru as some white Gap things. You could see my navy undies, but I'm sure nude ones would blend in.

I love the dress's print, but that style on me made me look like a hot air balloon. I might wait for it to go on sale and buy a giant size to make curtains out of.
