She’s A Betty

america W.jpg
We do not love the show Ugly Betty, but we do enjoy the May cover of W Magazine, which stars America Ferrara.

This marks the second time in two months that a major American fashion magazine has put a woman on the cover who isn’t a sample size. The difference is this:

Jennifer Hudson’s article in Vogue was all about the actress’ hunt for an Oscar dress, and the challenges and joys that go with finding clothes to fit her body. Meanwhile, America mentions in the W piece that she hates it when the press call her “lumpy” (which she’s certainly not), but otherwise, she’s much more into discussing her career than her style.

We think this is a great thing, since America seems to be dressed just fine without the help of Andre Leon Talley. That blue Brian Reyes dress she wore to accept her Golden Globe was killer.

I don't know JB, there's that shade of indigo that can go either way, especially in flashbulbs and on TV. Actually, Imaginary Socialite is doing a post about this later today!

Allie,

LOVE america ferrara, but don't love the show because it's just SO over the top. It's a little much for me, I'm more a quirky humor girl, like Frasier and The L Word and Entourage. I don't think it's a bad show at all, it's just not my show. xo.

Actually, I think America is a size 6 and you may do with that number what you will.

Also: Ugly Betty is no 30 Rock.

That phrase pisses me off to no end. Real women are sometimes flat-chested. Or slim-hipped. Or 5'10" and skinny with large breasts. "Real" beauty is a ridiculous concept. Either we're all beautiful or none of us are; "curves" shouldn't mean "real" any more than it should mean "fat."

I love America ... she really is such a great role model for all the girls out there. And I'm so glad she partnered with Brian Reyes. He designed a fabulous dress for her to wear.
