Adventures in Copyrights, Domestic Goddess Edition

patrick copies.jpg We screeched to a halt in the East Village yesterday, when we passed a window with the Patrick Robinson print inside of it.

Alas, the new Gap designer hasn’t licensed his Target prints for a home line, but the brand KitchenWear seems to have taken a fancy to them.

Here’s Patrick’s famous Aegean print, turned from brown to black and flipped around a bit, then stamped on oven mitts and aprons for the various Nigellas and Giadas of the world.

We think the apron is adorable - and the pattern makes it easy to hide stains from cooking - but there is one giggly irony:

This apron costs significantly more than the Target dress!

Oh come on, it's a totally generic print! Patrick Robinson didn't just ingeniously come up with that design, it's been around for centuries, and lots of different designers use it. Another reason why Robinson's Target line was such a bore.
