Battle of the Socialite Tees!

socialite tee battle.jpg
We can’t believe how much we like Unruly Heir, the clothing line started by Kristian Laliberte. It’s sharp, it understands that it’s sort of a joke, and if a guy showed up for a date wearing a piece of it, we wouldn’t mind at all. But we still think its creator is a little funny.

Meanwhile, Doug Marshall took time out of his busy schedule wearing blazers and shorts to make these tees in honor of the now-fallen Socialite Rank.

With Genevieve Jones launching a jewelry line and Tinsley’s second batch of Samantha Thavasa handbags hitting shelves soon, we had a brief moment of panic until we realized:

Tory Burch was a certified lady who lunched, until she became something of a style genius.

Of course, we don’t expect many to follow her success… do you?

I question designating tory burch any kind of fashion genius. shilling, maybe, networking, sure, but fashion?

Not fashion genius - style genius. Slight difference. I certainly wouldn't let her cut a pattern.

Gawker noted that the kid who writes PAP was pictured in NYmag wearing a blazer from Unruly Heir. Think he might be getting some notes from Kristian?

This line is a joke. It's a play on prepster meets hip hop and it looks so forced.

I don't have respect for Laliberte, but I like his line - he (or whoever's designing) really hit the trend pulse with those hoodies. Also, the pieces look less forced than Trovata (nearest comparison I can think of) and god knows they did good things for a short time.

i agree with ridiculous! i saw this line and thought, "now where have i seen this stuff before? oh, that's right at Phat Farm!"

it's prep trying to be street, which Russell Simmons did ages ago!

Thanks AMM and Ridiculous - I'm not as familiar with Phat Farm as I could be, so I'll run by their store tomorrow and check out their collections.

I still think there's something really charming (and snotty, in a funny way) about a seersucker hoodie, but I can't wait to see what Russell Simmons' line has that compares.

Um. I don't get the obsession with Tory Burch and her stupid flat shoes with the stupid gold thing on them. They're everywhere. Ugh.

I don't know much about phat farm either but I love the LOLA boys and their t's/clothes. The line isn't as developed as Unruly Heir but their look seems legit and they are a walking representation of their line. Laliberte pops his collar and used to wear fur..how does he fit in with this line??
