Devi Kroell for Target: I Am A Plastic Bag

Devi_Look_001-prv.jpg
Anya Hindmarch may be running away from plastics, but CFDA darling Devi Kroell is hurdling towards them with her new Target collection.

The handbag designer has six new accessories hitting Target this July, and all of them are shiny and very synthetic.

The interesting part:

The bags mimic Devi’s signature snakeskin bags in their look and texture, but they’ve got a filmy sheen that only comes from plastic - the kind that makes the bags cost $12 - $40.

Is the obvious faux snakeskin a dealbreaker on these bags? Or does it somehow make it cooler?

Knowitall: I agree PVC quality do look pretty impressive in the photos, but they are just "samples"... I wonder what the mass production will look like in store...
But the handfeel of PVC always puts me off from buy it...

@KIKI: true, we will have to wait and see...
my good friend has a mass production bag company and when they did plain pvc it looked all shiny and cheap, but when she did "snakeskin" it actually looked pretty good...I guess it just depends on if they decide to cheap out on the materials...

could be exciting... (or not) wait and see sounds exactly right on the 'snakeskin' – and on this, too:

the pictures look good but i was at target yesterday and saw a few snakeskin like clutches. they didn't look good (nor feel good either, i would suppose as i didn't even try to touch them). still, i'll be checking it out when it's released.

what makes the real devi bags so great though is how beautiful the snakeskin is.. take that away and there's not much left..

the only kind thing to say at this juncture is that at least no snakes were injured in the making of these bags - the environment is another issue

I have a faux snakeskin PVC bag ( bought secondhand) and I love it. It's very durable, and the handfeel is fine. I love that I can take it out in the rain and snow with no worries!.
Strangely enough, even though I just got it as a runaround bag, I get compliments on it ALL THE TIME, more than any other bag I have owned.. it's odd..
I would reccomend the large gold bagt -i.e. the 'runaround bag' frankly fake PVC rather then a clutch( looking too much like it wants to be something else )

Pretty amazing, I love Devi's stuff, she is the only accessories designer who really innovates. NOT agreeing with LL. That wooden clutch? First one with oversized crystals, and Marc followed.
