Portfolio's Lauren Goldstein Crowe tracked the new Burberry Icon bags - and their new 4-digit prices - this year.
She found that as the bag's prices went up, so did their demand.
Currently, the Beaton bag retails for $2000, which makes it the most expensive Burberry bag yet. And the bag is sold out of almost every Burberry store in America.
Meanwhile, we think the bag is beautiful, but it doesn't stop us dead in our tracks. Which makes us wonder:
Is paying an extreme price for a bag a shopper's badge of honor? Or if this same bag retailed at Coach for $395 (or even Burberry for $395), would it fade into the background of branded accessories?

I think that you are right on...the bag, while it is gorgeous, is not worth the inflated price. I mean I can find a super chic bag at Old Navy for goodness sake (http://www.oldnavy.com/browse/product.do?cid=12815&pid=485824 - check it out...I love it!!) but that might just be me. I think it all depends on your style and what you believe to be worth it. While the Burberry bag is absolutely beautiful and I am sure it is of the highest level of craftmenship and leather quality, I just think that if I am going to invest $2K plus for a bag that I want it to be really special to me. This bag might be special to someone though...
