I’m all for capsule collections, admittedly out of self-interest. And it’s okay for most brands to do, since they have very little by way of artistic integrity to compromise in the first place. YSL, however, certainly does. The house has always been the pinnacle for me.
I wonder what Monsieur Saint-Laurent would have to say about this.

Coutorture has some images from the Simply Vera collection (via WWD), and they’ve actually styled it for younger women. I’m surprised how much I like it.
As for YSL, the line starts at about 200 euros and goes up to about 1000. I think it’s a great thing, if Pilati can pull it off.

ps: simply oops! duh, it’s “Simply Vera”… the new clothes may be better (yay!) but miss the old Bridget Jones-ish name v.v. much :)

There’s been several mentions of this in other articles, but I love Vera Wang’s response to why she did the collection. It was something along the lines of how even though she loved doing her RTW collections, she was exicited at the opportunity to produce a line that women all over could enjoy.
Okay, so in retrospect, that’s probably what designers-gone-discount always say …
Oh — and apparently Vera, who does the silk scarves, has taken issue with the name. And VW’s hubby, Arthur Becker has stepped in to help out (?) Interesting. I’m not sure why she would need him to be her muscle in this matter …
