You Can Never Be Too Rich, Too Thin, or Too Publicized?

Style critic Sarah Mower has always been one of our idols, so when she writes on anything - even the hoarse debate on too-skinny models - we're bound to listen.

Her thoughts, as outlined today in The London Telegraph, start with '90s supermodels, who were considerably rounder than the Lilies and Sashas of now.

Sarah asserts that when these women left the industry, so did the craziness and fun of fashion, "and that makes a less healthy atmosphere."

Sarah also makes the most realistic statement yet about today's top girls: "The only thing that would put more flesh on models' bones is a worldwide shift in aesthetics."

How do we get there?

Mower's accompanying piece - on her teen daughter's obsession with shorts - might be key. As a new generation of style consumers comes up, their preferences will dictate the market, and influence the new iconography. If today's teens reject industry standards, the fashion world will have to follow them, or else lose millions.

After all, the only reason those girls are so skinny is so they can sell you things...

Kate wasn't round in the 90's, but according to Beth she agrees:

This is the gold old story, is fashion a reflection of sociey or the other way around?
Anyway this debate is very stupid, teenagers in the "good old day"s were supose to be skinny,if they are not skinny when they are 13 when can they be? When I was teen in the 90's and I'm not exagerating there was only one clearly fat person in my school, and she had a health problem. Just because today's teenagers are bigger than they supose to be doesn't mean that everyone should follow their example.
I think this girls are beautiful, much more beautiful than all the Cindys and Lindas of my youth, they just have to make sure they are not too young so that they can handle the pressure,
They are MODELS they are not supose to be average, fashion shouldn't be responsible for the vanity and stupidity of some teenagers.
