Amelia Earhart may best be known for piloting planes - but what about fashion trends? The July issue of Smithsonian features a piece on the late legend from a surprisingly sartorial perspective. Apparently, Earhart had a penchant for wearing beautifully-tailored clothing. She was best known for her riding outfits, which kept in step with the equestrian-inspired trends of the 1930s - and which, in turn, inspired Alvin Valley's most recent runway line (Proenza had a few items on their catwalk for lift-off, too). But here's what we found fascinating - some time after Earhart reached celebrity status, she helped design and publicize a line of women's active wear.
