DIY: Prada Sandal Update!

In the spring of 2003, Miuccia Prada send out some sandals.

They were flat silk, and encrusted with plastic pieces cut like jewels. And to say they were a hit would be an understatement - because, within months, they were everywhere.

You can still find the sandals at various places - thrift stores in LA, outlets in Milan, fashion closets in Manhattan - but when you wear them, everybody always goes, "Ooh, those Prada sandals."

Except with ours, we started to look down and go, "Ew, those Prada sandals."

So we grabbed some black nail polish and did a quick paint job.

Now they look like a completely different pair of shoes, but a few swipes of nail polish remover with a cotton ball, and they're back to Miuccia's original vision.

We're sick of getting pedicures for ourselves, but giving them to our designer shoes was a sort of hysterical experience.

That's pretty cool! I like how you can kinda still see a little green on the stones.

Yeah.... Still have two pairs of those Prada's in my closet - high heels and thongs, with green and yellow stones... :-P
Put them aside one week ago to sell them asap.

Very cool idea to paint them black and to give them a personal note!!

so, just to make sure i understand: your DIY is to take our old prada sandals, paint the stones with nailpolish, and then we have prada sandals?

Pretty much. It's a way to keep wearing them even after you're tired of their original look.

They look like a mix out of Prada and Balanciaga now - I like it!

but when you remove the black coat of nail polish won't the plastic look dull? not thta i think it matters - it looks far better in black with the glimmer of green on the sides.

the black looks much cooler, in my humble opinion.
the silk looks blue in the first pic and black in the second pic -- is that just the lighting?

You could etch or remover-qtip swab little dollar signs into the rectangular stones.

be sure to use non-acetone nail polish remover or the plastic will be wrecked
