Harry Potter, Muse?

Is Harry Potter a fashion inspiration?

It is so, according to Australia’s Brisbane Times.

Fashion is, of course, inspired by anything and everything, and movies are an often-recurring source of material for designers.

If The Wicker Man (the original very cool British movie, no the Nick Cage knockoff…) can inspire Gareth Pugh, why not Harry Potter?

Certain elements of Harry’s look are easier to replicate than others. Hermes and YSL showed long black capes that had a certain Hogwarts mystery and intrigue. Sienna Miller has been spotted out and about in capes as well, although she has a preference for more modern cropped capes in bright colors.

On the other hand, Harry’s trademark round spectacles will be a liitle harder for us Muggles to pull off.

And for any over the age of twelve, a Hogwarts-style striped scarf is just a big, big no-no -

Though Ginny and Hermione wore some really cute cable knit sweaters that we swear came from Marc by Marc…

I sort of love the striped scarf--it's so collegiate, cozy, and one of the better Oxbridge traditions, in my opinion.

Actually, now that you mention it, this also looks like the fall Adam + Eve collection (the men's striped cardigans in particular). Interrresting...

This post just makes me excited for the book. Yes, a little off topic but really, who isn't thinking about that?

Marc by Marc F/W 07 was steeped in Harry Potter! At least the men's stuff. The round spectacles, the striped scarves/sweaters/cardigans... It was all done amazingly. I need those rounded specs...

Sure it is. For instance, Ralph Lauren Rugby, which I love, seems incredibly Harry Potter. It's filled with colorful, striped polos with embroidered patches, seersucker sundresses, navy school(girl of boy) blazers with great quality, and velvet and plaid strapless dresses.
