Not Open To It

Usually when we see the “what were they thinking fashion disaster sections in celeb magazines like US Weekly and People, we secretly like and would happily wear most of the outfits. When Michelle Williams wore that really cool Chloé prairie dress recently with her new Mia Farrow pixie cut, she got blasted by the tabloids, but we thought she never looked better.

But when we saw this People story about the “questionable trend of open-toed booties, we had to agree whole-heartedly.

In this picture, Lindsay’s shoes are kind of OK, mostly because they don’t really look like boots, but some kind of weird stilettos that are borderline acceptable. But SJP and Victoria Beckham?

Have you ever seen worse shoes?

Michelle Williams looked wonderful in that dress.

Lindsay's look like she's wearing socks with heels. I think SJP's are just peculiar b/c of the chunky heel. They're like open toed clogs. However, Victoria's are pseudo-normal looking. And I say that with a lot of hesitance.

While these are terrible in theory, Victoria can do no wrong.

Victoria Beckham is looking more and more like a space alien.

I agree, these shoes are SO hideous.

I liked these last fall, although I wouldn't wear them now that it's summer.

Emmanuelle Alt actually wore the same shoes as SJP (Fendi, I think) in this Sartorialist photo, and she looks amazing.

I think it's more about choosing the right outfit (and season) than the shoes themselves.

these ladies have the luxury of wearing a passing trend a couple times and moving on - in the case of the stinky toeboots one hopes they all move along rather quickly

I actually love the version SJP has on, though not with that outfit.

I think these are by Fendi. I like them but they remind me of the shoes that my grandmother used to wear. At one point we wore the same size and I wore hers with my modern clothes, boy was I a fashion innovator! In little italy or nolita in ny you can still see some little old ladies wearing them, closed toe in the winter, the open toe ones in the summer.

I have to agree with Betty, the shoes totally work for Emmanuelle (totally in love with the whole look), but on SJP they seem silly with the short jeans and too-casual outfit.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but ive noticed a fair few open toed boots in next seasons shows. Why on earth anyone would wear them in the middle of winter is beyond me. Blue frost bitten toes anyone?
