JoJo - Well, she *can* wear them, but it doesn't mean they'll be flattering on her. You don't really think all body types can wear all clothes, do you? Hell, they'd look like crap on me too.
Max - From what I've read - the top will be something designed by her mother. Ahem.

ae, I feel you bb but don't expect racial sensitivity from a site where Alison Cool checks "White Lines" as a Duran Duran song. LOLOLOL
BTW I'm whiter than any of y'all, love the site but your myopia and lack of historical knowledge is disturbing

Oh, I love it when people turn things into a black and white issue (literally, figuratively, everything - and yes, sarcastically, too).
The thing is, the post never says Beyonce shouldn't wear them. It says that Nicolas Ghesquiere had a very different vision in mind when he made them, one of Coco Ro-bot.
The other thing is, honestly, I can't see Beyonce wearing them as anything but a costume, and I think the whole point of the leggings was to introduce something incredibly progressive, but also not entirely unbelievable. Those leggings worn like skinny jeans, with a really casual gray t-shirt that drapes well, could be insane.
I can't see Beyonce wearing a t-shirt with those things, especially if her mom is making it. And no, I don't think the shape of her body works especially well with them either, but it's not about her butt or her legs - it's about how you need a really long torso to carry them off, which isn't really a signature of a certain race, it's just a matter of build. Beyonce is high waisted, like me, and I'm like so jewish I'm thisclose to becoming a Sarah Silverman skit.
Also, I have "white lines" on vinyl; I didn't realize it was such a taboo record.

I think it's more about Alison throwing out Duran Duran (way white) when referencing White Lines instead of the original, and blacker, Grandmaster Flash ...

Beyonce is not fat - Sports Illustrated would never put a "fat" girl on their cover in a bikini. It's kind of frightening how some girls seem to think anyone who doesn't look like a skeleton has a weight problem.
But, moving on - I don't think anyone would look good wearing these; not even Coco or Kate Moss. Balenciaga or not, they are really unflattering and gaudy.

"I think it's more about Alison throwing out Duran Duran (way white) when referencing White Lines instead of the original, and blacker, Grandmaster Flash"
working overtime to defend your girl and perhaps your own self? Jus a guess, as what you said makes no damn sense at all.

Yeeaaah, I've never defended Alison. Faran, on occasion.
FYI, Someone above called out Alison for mentioning Duran Duran's remake of Grandmaster Flash's 'White Lines' in a post of hers from last week. Since 'racial sensitivity' was thrown out there, I thought I'd simplify it for everyone.
Apparently, it wasn't simple enough.

You still don't make a damn bit of sense Bonnie Lass. I'm sure the words are genius in your own head, but down here it's word salad. And please don't strain yourself patting yourself on the back.

Um, you people all have problems. WHY are you getting into a fight over this? Alison saying "White Lines" was by Duran Duran was not racist, IT WAS SIMPLY A MISTAKE SHE MADE! No way she couldn't have realized that it wasn't their song originally *sarcasm*.
Also, as Faran pointed out, the post never says that Beyonce shouldn't be wearing them. They were designed to be worn by a superskinny model, not bootylicious Beyonce. This does not mean she can't pull them off, but it would just be harder for her—I can't wait to see those pics!
ae, Beyonce is simply not a size 4. She is most definetly not fat, though. And the person who said they are 5'7", 115 lbs. and a size 8... whoa! I'm 5'7" and even when I weighed 118 lbs, I still fit into my size 2's nicely.

Hello all,
Just to clarify - what I said was that I had Duran Duran's "White Lines" in my head, which I did. Yes, it is a cover of a Grandmaster Flash song, but the one I had in my head just so happened to be the Duran Duran version. Which sounds very different, by the way.
Also - if you really want to get into it, it's a generally accepted fact that the whole history of American rock 'n roll has always involved the appropriation and re-appropriation of music coming out of different cultures and ethnic groups.
A lot of times, minority musicians didn't (and don't) get credit for their genius, which is horrible, but that doesn't stop me from liking Velvet Underground or Bob Dylan or Duran Duran or anyone else.
Anyone else is welcome to turn off the radio anytime a cover comes on.

jesus h. christ...this is not a racial thing, nor is it a weight think.....beyonce would look awful in those leggins cause her thighs and ass are huge, and who fucking gives a shit if alison like a duran duran cover of a song an african american first wrote? SERIOUSLY! GIVE THE GIRL A FUCKING BREAK!

Jesus, since when making a mistake about who wrote a song has to do with "racial sensitivity", and yes just because someone likes a cover doesn't have to like the original even if, shock horror, the original is from a black artist, this is PC gone mad and some people have to get out more.

I think the leggins are fierce. I also think they were designed to be conceptual and not necessarily to be worn outside of editorial or runway demographics.
As for the wearability issue: I think its brave of anyone to wear them any wear them any where, any way. I would love to be able to pull them off, but I m 5'2 and I sure they would make me look oompaloompah-esque even if I am a size 2. I don't think Beyonce should wear them at all. I think if Balenciaga fashioned a mini or a pencil skirt (or even short-shorts) from the same material it would be entirely more wearable, totally hot, and I would covet them. And Beyonce would look cute in it on stage. Cheers!

PS... About Alison: if she made a mistake aobut the music it would be nicer to educate her politely than shout accusations that she is 'racist'. She might not have known, or she might not like Grandmaster Flash. who cares, it STILL does not make her racist.

Referring to sizes, I'm always shocked that people never take height into consideration. A US 8/10 can be a larger size if you are short, but for those over 5'9, this size is equivalent to a 4 on a shorter girl.
So I have no idea how tall Beyonce is, but if she's short (which I doubt), she could be a 4 (although I doubt that too). Also the shape of your skeleton affects size as much as how much fat is on it--or muscle for that point. Simply put, this obsession with size is not only unhealthy (in my opinion) but somewhat irrelevant.

She just wore the Balenciaga leggings to perform at the BET awards. It did not look as bad as everyone claimed it was going to look. She looked great.

I was hoping you'd mention this - no offense to Beyonce, but I can't think of anyone more unsuited to those leggings. Should be, uh, interesting to see her try to pull them off. Yikes.
