Streetwalker: Sneaking Out

jenny f.jpg
Jenny Feldman, Nylon Fashion Features Director

Got Her: Outside the ICP benefit party on Ninth Avenue

Stalked Her: Because she was the fifth girl we’ve seen all week in lace-up white Keds, and we loved them paired with a Chanel bag.

Shot Her: Because this is an evening look that screams effortless cool.

She Says: “Everything I’m wearing is from Chris Benz. I think the best part is the way you can just throw it on and it works… there are tiny shorts that go underneath this dress; I’m so obsessed with Chris Benz.”

We Say: Can we borrow it?

it screams post-tennis practice in tenafly, NJ, by way of loehmann's (source of the oversized plaid women's jacket).

she also seems to be holding down her hem which belies her discomfort with the length, not to mention the transparency, of the mini-dress.

overall, an awkward fashion moment. but points for keeping the tennies so white. she can wear them when she goes back to cheerleading camp next month.

I like this outfit, despite our subject looking a bit uncomfortable. The shoes are so unorthodox, but I do think they really work. I'm a little on the fence about the blue top. Maybe Matthew can sway me one way or the other. And can we say, "CHANEL?" I must say that I've been having a personal affair with this brand for some time now.

hmm i understand shes going for a "look" but she looks a little too much like she's early for halloween. The shoes with the plaid oversized whatever-that-thing-is with more pastel underneath, ah! i actually don't hate the purse with the outfit, but unfortunately i do hate the outfit, so i guess that cancels my one good opinion out.

slouching like something out of a yeats poem is tres chic, don't you know.

seriously? her posture + the awkward leg position + the tugging at the bottom of the dress = she is well aware that her audience does not have the gynecological acumen that this outfit requires.

For the record, I HATE Keds. You can dress them up with Chanel, or wear them in Buckingham Palace, they still suck. Also, do we know for a fact that that bag is genuine? ha. Yesterday I was assailed for my half-complimentary half-constructive comments, so I decided to be really nice today. ...This is a Long Island meets Canal Street disaster! (I'm sure Caroline loves it.)

I must say that Fashionista always features interesting outfits. (And that's not me being sarcastic) Personal preference always makes a big difference in whether someone appreciates or doesn't appreciate an outfit you guys post (as opposed to models in a magazine that have been stylized to perfection)... personally, I would've liked this without the necklaces.

I think of all the people in New York who write blogs about how they can't get a simple job at a magazine - cough, Ed2010, cough. They should really look at this girl as an example of what to wear.

Helen, I laughed out loud at your "gynecological acumen" comment. I have never heard those two words used in the same sentence together and, even though it doesn't make much sense at all, I still think it's the funniest thing written on this board in some time.

Matthew, you are a Keds- hating fashionista of the world and should be lauded for your candid fashion honesty. However, please try to appreciate "the high and the low." I'm given pause, though, because I can only assume that this is an authentic purse (the "high") but, I must point out, you win extra points on the board today for bringing to light what could amount to the biggest fashion mistake ever, that is, rocking the countefeit. I don't see a CC monogram or any other distinguishing characteristics on this bag to assuage my fears that this might be a fake. The hardware isn't even suffciently detailed with any Chanel stampings. If this is the case, we have "the low and the low" and that, my dedicated fashionistas, makes this outfit instantly revocable.

Sir- Point taken. I actually do think that variety is the spice of life (contrary to some misconceptions I've heard previously here) BUT also realize that some spices can make you lose your lunch. I had similar observations about the handbag.... and that it looks like couch upholstery. But I digress. It troubles me that you're vilified here for speaking your mind and doing anything other than slavishly offering up praise, but I was born to be a martyr. :P

Another round of support for Matthew. I think he always has something thoughtful to say, even if I don't agree with him -- although i do here.

If we all agreed on fashion, we wouldn't be here and the magazine industry would a lot more somber and a lot less lucrative.

If you can intelligently say why you don't like an outfit, that's great, but dumping on someone in order to make yourself something of a personality on this blog is really boring.

Be warned.

Aw, don't be stunned, just be a little more aware.

For instance, the comment about the Chanel bag being real - well, it's real. An editor at a major fashion mag wouldn't carry around a faux bag; it could get them in incredible trouble with advertisers.

Plus, editors get major discounts on handbags, to the point of insanity. If we ever meet, I'll show you something I got from Prada last year as an example.

And yes, there is a bit of censorship on this blog's comment board, which we addressed last week:

Um, I think Chris Benz made "tiny shorts" that go under this dress for a reason! It's too short and, in the right light, possibly see-through.

The dress is cute but not with the jacket. The jacket is too Esprit circa 1982.

Love the bag - just not with this ensemble.
