TopShop Goes Cruising

toshop suit.jpg
Traditionally, cruise collections are tailor-made for the privileged. Who else could take a mid-winter vacation to The Maldives?

But TopShop’s first-ever Cruise collection emerges mid-summer, and it’s a clear indication of TopShop’s direction towards high fashion trends with mass market appeal.

Yes, the military style shorts are a bit reminiscent of Chanel’s 2008 Cruise collection, and the numerous floaty, floral pieces remind us of Dior’s - but none were as fun as Topshop’s.

What kills us is the attention to detail: The cut of the garments, the belts, the shapes, and the earthy accents.

Cruise collections normally provide a break from winter’s heavy layers, but because TopShop is releasing their line now, many of these items are perfect buy-ins to this summer’s trends of bright colors and one-piece swimsuits.

The graphic blue-and-white maillot is our personal favorite, but how do you feel about the daisy and polka dot tube top? Too Daisy Duck?

that's not really a cruise collection. those items are just part of topshop's regular collection that just happen to look like they'd fit right in on a cruise. i recognize those short sleeved jackets on the website from months ago.

Don't mean to be a party pooper (and TopShop is a big party to poop on) but I'm really over this store...their clothes look trendy but once you touch them you become quickly un-enamored. I guess they have some peices that are worth mixing in but overall I'd rather spend my money on last seasons better quality stuff than this season's top shop. And that includes Kate Moss!

I agree about the sometimes sub-par quality, Jen.

However, for a girl on a budget like me, TopShop is a godsend.

A bit of confusion for me...this might be a dumb question but when you order from TopShop, are the sizes on the site UK sizes? I see the size conversions on the chart, so are those the sizes I should be looking at?

Thanks Kristen...do you happen to know how to put in my contact number so that it accepts it also? I'm having fits with it here. It refuses to take my American number - tried country code, everything.

Oh for your phone number? Don't leave it blank, just enter the number zero 11 times - the number of digits in a UK mobile number - and it should work. That's what I did to get my TopShop dress.

It's not a Cruise collection - becasue cruise collections come in store December-time and this stuff is available NOW. It's just a collection called Cruise full of cruisy, nautical-inspired pieces (ie lots of white and bleu!)

I just pasted the number they provided--it was making me insane. The bs was worth it, though, because, having been enabled by Faran, I bought four long cotton dresses and a bikini. Yay!
