Adventures in Copyrights: We’re Waisted

war of the warhols.jpg Grey Ant’s High Waist Braid Jeans are tricky to wear.

With the heavy detailing, butt-hugging fit, and wide leg, we’re not sure these jeans have mass appeal.

Thus, we’re a bit perplexed: Why is Urban Outfitters producing their own copy?

Most of Gray Ant’s signature touches appear in the Urban version (braiding, high waist, wide leg), but the elimination of additional braiding on the front pockets makes them a bit easier to wear. We do like the Grey Ant fabric better though, because it’s softer.

But jeans like this will only work if they’re tailored perfectly, and even then, it’s a stretch.

So would you pay the $330 for the high end pair?

Or would you try to work the $68 version, which may be more likely to look bad Urban knock-offs (which, well, they are…)?

i won't wear wide-leg pants because i don't get the point of a pant where your shoe is hidden. i'm into shoes so i wouln't hide them.

and high waisted jeans like that only look good on very tall and very thin. i'm neither nor are most. these won't catch on.

high waisted jeans + braiding + brass details = spring '04 chloe

(also, knocked off by h&m the following summer)

I am kind of over the low rise jeans, no matter now cool they look. The high rise used to be the called "natural waist", which is more forgiving on most people who do not have a flat stomach. The ultra low rise jeans look bad on most people since it enhances their flab.

I hate how high-waisted jeans look on someone as skinny as that model. It really emphasizes the rectangular, board-like shape of her abdomen. They look much better on someone with more meat on her bones, whether that be a Gwen Stefani-like body or someone as curvy as Jennifer Lopez.

i completely agree, that grey ant pictures remind me of something i'd see on my way too thin roommate's "inspiration board"

Adventures in copyright infringement: H&M ripped those off too. I missed it the first time around, I tried on a denim pencil skirt there this spring with the same waistline and braiding. They had jeans, too. The fit was terrible on my naturally-and-cursedly-high waist. Were they ripping off Chloe, Blue Ant, or their own knockoffs from 05? so meta.
