Last season, Pat McGrath talked at length about “the stained lip,” even telling Allure magazine that she wanted the Lilies and the Tanyas to look as though they’d just sipped too much wine (a fun idea, considering the girls were mostly teens).
This season, the idea of spilled chianti seems to have soaked from lips to nails -
Check out this backstage photo at the Lacroix Couture show, where the girls’ fingers were first coated in a blood red base, then topped with bluish lacquer.
The deep purple mixture seems to be a good compromise for those still sticking with black nail polish, and those who have tried to move onto neons, silvers, or pinks -
Only to be reminded, as we have, that unless your nails are perfectly kept, those colors look awfully sloppy.
So is this worth trying?
