Levis Sues Again!

we love you conrad oh yes we do.jpgLevis announces another lawsuit today, this one against Abercrombie & Fitch.

According to WWD, the suit is similar to Levis’ ongoing pursuit of Polo Ralph Lauren jeans, centering on pocket stitches allegedly trademarked by Levi Strauss and stolen by Ralph (and now, by Abercrombie).

We speculated on Monday
that the suits were more a business move, meant to preserve Levis’ dominance in a growning (and increasingly unstable) denim market. What better way to beat your competitors than to tie them up in court?

But as long as they’re happening, we may as well make it fun.

Anyone want to guess who Levis will sue next?

We’re betting Calvin… or maybe TopShop, who just settled a suit with Chloe this morning for about $25,000…

I find this a little weird...I don't know about RL, but I've worked at A&F for quite a while, and they've been using the same stitching on their jeans pockets for years, and it looks nothing like the distinctive Levis "seagull" design...strange

ok...i'm going to amend what I just said...I went and took a look at A&F's website, as well as Hollister's (because, if anyone out there's not aware, it's the same company)...I'm thinking it's the women's jeans at Hollister that Levi's must be taking issue with, but it's still kind of a stretch if you ask me.

here's the deal -- the arcuate design (the back pocket stitching) is the oldest apparel trademark existing. It is one of the unique things that makes Levi's Levi's, thus it is literally priceless. The company goes to every length to protect it and the red tab which is copywritten as to it's placement out of the pocket seam and it's color. If you violate those trademarks, they will go after you, period. Why shouldn't they protect their trademarks?? They're still in business after 150 years, how many other jeans companies can say that?

25k is small peanuts for top shop to pay, i'm sure they made way more money off of the copied designs

They are desperate!! They sue any denim co. that uses embroidery that "dips" in the middle. Gimme a break. They are losing money by the minute and think this will help make some of it up! They should spend there time coming up with jeans that people want to wear.

Maybe levi's should jump on the 'sue forever21' train. i'm sure their f21's jeans are in violation of some law other than just being heinous

p.s. really? the ruehl women's back pocket stitching? i mean, i am twisting around to look at my ass and its a stretch to say it is infringing on levi's' logo
