Adventures in Copyrights, Beauty Edition

nobody makes chai tea the right way.jpg
Two years ago, we met Nina Leykind, a former makeup artist who founded her own beauty range with husband Max.

She was too cute, and too cool, and gave us a favorite gloss:

Liparazzi.

It was a giant glittery tube of lip shine, and when you clicked it, the case lit up like a flashlight. We kept it in our Venetia bag to search for keys; we smuggled it under the covers to read late at night. It was pretty brilliant, and we loved it.

Then yesterday on the subway, a friend lent us some lipgloss. It came in the same flashlight tube, with the same rectangular mirror on the side. Only the logo didn’t say “Liparazzi” - it said Rimmel Light Beam.

It seems the British makeup company has made a new product with a little too much inspiration -

Perhaps when they saw their spokesgirl, Kate Moss, copying vintage Versace for her TopShop line, they got an idea of their own?

I don't know about the Rimmel product, but Aussie company Modelco launched a similar product a while ago -- it's called Liplights and the formula is fabulous ... not sticky, etc.
