Adventures in Copyrights: Even Britney Gets Involved

We know not everyone is immune to designer knockoffs, even in Hollywood.

But if anyone’s going to carry a fake Chanel bag around, we’d expect it to be the Laguna Beach kids (especially Kyndra - oh, Kyndra!), and not established celebrities.

So we were shocked when we saw this photo of Britney Spears, toting this egregiously fake pink Chanel.

Meanwhile, a member of her entourage used one arm to hold Britney’s hand, and another to hold a real Paddington bag.

We knew Britney was in some sort of crisis, but we never realized how bad until we saw the accessories.

That's a great question, A. A good indication that a Chanel bag is fake is when the logo on the front is a Double "O" instead of a Double C - as you'll notice Brit's is.

Yeah, but that clearly isn't the fancy new Chanel. Part of me thinks it's kind of brilliant that Britney has a fake Chanel, cuz she obviously doesn't care, but my better reason knows that it's just part of her general downward spiral.

Hahaha...you don't have to apologize to me--if the negative comments bothered me that badly, I'd stop reading them.

And I agree that it's hard as hell to see that they're circles, not c's. I wouldn't have noticed it, but I think the bag is fugtastic, anyway--it looks like my grandma's throw pillows-- and when taken within the context of the outfit...and the shame spiral...well...

That bag is totally fake! It's not meant to be soft and squishy, it's supposed to be more structured. And the chain strap shouldn't look ratty like that. Fake, fake, fake!

I feel like Britney doesn't even KNOW that it's a knock off of a Chanel though. I feel like she saw it at the mall and said, "OMG YA'LL HOW CUTE! AND PINK!" It's not like she knows anything about designers or fashion. I remember once, long before the meltdown, this magazine had her look back on her red carpet moments and she had no clue who had designed things. There was one Oscar de la Renta and she goes, "Oh. That designer had a really long name. It was pretty though."

Also, Faran, you're my idol. Because you got out of suburban MA and moved to NYC and have an awesome job and are living my dream life. So just ignore the mean people.

I dont just like you. i like you, like you- I totally agree. I consider this to be one of the best outfits I've seen on this woman in a very long time, primarily because so little of her over-publicised, worn out flesh is visible. What’s truly awful, is that Ms. Spears so consistently adorns herself in such objectionable attire that I would consider offering praise for a simple all-black ensemble. Thank you, Faran, for providing a visual safe haven from the horror of celebrity fashion holocaust.

Did anyone ask her what kind of purse it was? If she was asked and said it was a Chanel I can see folks blasting her for it, but if she never claimed it was a Chanel no one can say that she was trying to pretend it was one. I'm with Kara, maybe she just didn't care but thought it was cute. Just because she's rich doesn't mean she has to flaunt big name designer clothes, shoes, accessories, etc., all the time. Considering she wiped her greasy hands on a $14k dress and let her dog defecate on another, means that obviously she doesn't care about fashion or name brands.

and for Kara and the Anon who agrees with her, its not about flaunting a big name designer. if she didnt want a purse from a big name designer, then she couldve bought a really cute purse from Macy's without a label on it. but the fact that she got a FAKE Chanel gets her the thumbs down. why shell out bucks for a knock off when everyone knows its a knock off? just get a cute bag from the Gap, that way you wont have to worry about labels or double circles instead of double Cs

I don't believe for one minute thats a fake. A clerk of Chanel would not be able to look at it and tell. I don't care if it was a rep. She would have to look carefully. I know a lot of people who specialize in fake Chanel and they can become so identical that if you took it to Channel they still would only be able to say by the id number that it wasn't bought in that store. But not that it is a fake. One way and with a very good replica the nearly only way is to see that the handle is stiff or limp. Only Channel has perfected the handle to standing straight up by itself. The fakes fall. They can perfect all other materials and make the seems perfect. Those fakes run in the hundreds. Saving bout 50%. poor fakes you can get cheap.

Get a life now I remember why I moved back to the east coast. From West Hollywood to Beverly Hills you all seem to be very narrowed minded. Get a life, is it all you have to do is to pick apart celeb's? Could also be the Valley too.
