Forbidden Love

Every once in a while, you have to ignore all of your friends’ warnings and sage advice and follow your heart. Sometimes this leads to dating a real jerk. Other times, it leads to the acquistion of amazing, but challenging item of clothing.
Take, for instance, these “banana” khaki-colored, high-waisted, tapered, puffy jeans from Acne. These are the kind of jeans your friends would never advise you to purchase.
OK, so they don’t promise to flatter.
And you can’t wear them with everything. But if you really think about it, the rolled bottom part is so “The Sartorialist,” and they’re guaranteed to be more comfy than your high-waisted skinny jeans.
So maybe love can conquer all. These are our new favorite jeans…

@Miriam
Is this the pick from The Sartorialist you were speaking of?

I think real style is wearing something as ugly as this and being good-humored about it. It’s about making it work, or, you know, skipping it entirely. Anything in between is just death. But all the people who are afraid of making mistakes with this stuff and the style police etc, well, that’s pretty boring.

I wore these in the “70s! so fresh when they first came out- I saw them in the ny times and ran out to buy them! but they always felt so “forced” when i wore them, too “trying too hard”. I too wore them with a heel- (high heeled shoe booties that i bought at Bendels when it was Bendels. ) What makes them modern today is that it’s part of a multitude of looks that you can have- the mixing of clothing and stuff from different eras is what is modern. But i still think that these will be on the sale rack at season’s end, as they don’t really flatter.

There are certain trends that shouldn’t be revisited…and this is definitely one of them.

I am sure there are a lot of 50-60-somethings out there drooling over these.

Andrea I also wore those in the late 70s, in the same color. I wore them with cola colored jelly fisherman sandals and a yellow oxford cloth shirt.
I would also buy oversized men’s suit pants at the salvation army and take in the waist to get the same effect.
ah, good times.
