Nylon has a great photo essay, showing the Technicolor glory of Manic Panic hair dye. There's a cute toddler rocking pink bangs, a guy from Illinois who admits his hair color can burn your retinas, and a Pittsburgh teen whose green hair got her a kiss. But Manic Panic's most surprising fan? It's NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg, who recently wrote an official letter to the dye company, congratulating them on 30 years in business. Says the Mayor:

"New York is the world's most exciting city. We are the American cradle of punk rock, home to a very colorful cast of characters, and (as anyone who's seen our busy streets at rush hour knows) a place where life is sometimes manic and panicked. Therefore it's no surprise that our residents have become so fond of your hair dyes...On behalf of the city of New York, please accept my best wishes for continued success."

We're suddenly much more intrigued by Bloomberg's possible 2008 presidential run. Perhaps he could dye his hair Vampire Red AND Electric Sky Blue, to demonstrate his opposition to partisan politics... --ANNA FIELDING GRIGGS
