Is that Eva Green? Practicing for her role as the witch in "The Golden Compass" I presume.

Yes, it's Eva Green. It says so in the bottom left corner of the picture.

Ilene, I think it's aspirational - people who can't access the entire Dior lifestyle can still take something from the line as their own (even if they make it themselves with Wet & Wild, which I totally do...)

Also, it gives you something fun to say when your friends show up with tacky metallic red everywhere and you dont want to tell them what you really think!

Hmmm, I feel like I remember that also being a trend at some point in high school, and that it ended well for no one.

But maybe I'm just jealous because my nail shape doesn't lend itself to the different color tip.

OPI ran an add with this same kind of thing. I think I saw the add in W.

my manicurist would get so confused and be like "PICK ONE COLOR. OR GET A REGULAR FRENCH. HOW ABOUT ACRYLICS WITH WHITE TIPS??? YOU CAN'T DO A BLACK NAIL WITH WHITE TIPS!"
and my hand isn't steady enough to do it myself.
But I agree with llsa that it was a trend in high school and worked well on no one. Except apparently Eva Green when clad in DIOR.

This look is not original Dior!! They are copying the singer from Tokio Hotel. He has been wearing his nails like this for at least a year.

I totally rocked that look in high school (10 years ago). It's easier to do and pull off than you imagine.

This ad reminds me wayyy too much of the one for Britney's Midnight Fantasy perfume.

Stam is rocking this look in the regular Dior ads too. The colors match her outfits (green for a green outfit, purple for a burgundy outfit, etc.). I wonder if they had to wait for her manicurist between shots or if they had a shortcut. . .

Maybe it's weird that I remember this, but that's how Drusilla in Buffy the Vampire Slayer did her nails. Red or black, with a white tip.

This goes back to what everyone else was saying -- the look is waaay too late 90s/evil vampire for me.
