Does This Make Me Look Short?

jennifer_lopez_300x400.jpg

People.com has a post about J.Lo’s extra-long pants, which reminds us that we don’t see the point of floor-grazing pants.

We’re more into ankle-baring Thom Browne styles.

The problem with the super-long pants are twofold:

The practical issue is, they drag on the ground and get dirty and ragged/

The stylis issue is, we can imagine girls buying them and being like, “If I wear these with heels I’ll look really tall”!

But actually, they look like short girls with pants that are too long.

Pants that are too short, on the other hand, make it look like you are so tall your pants just can’t keep up with your long legs.

And for a totally different opinion... I wear pants like that all the time, I think if you're proportioned for them (built small, long enough torso) they're actually kind of cool in the Madonna-Grunge-Vogue way.

The fug girls had a great commentary on these pants. :) Where'd her feet go?

I wear extra-long pants, but I'm always careful to let my feet show.

Cropped pants on short-legged people make them look stumpy. Cropped pants on long-legged people make them look like they have even longer legs, which isn't always a good thing.

And long pants can lead to tripping, especially once they start to fray, yet short pants can be drafty...which is why my mom and I agree that you can't go wrong with stirrup pants!

I'm sorry, but as someone's who's extra tall and skinny, there is NOTHING less stylish than pants that are too short. Unless you aspire to the I-just-experienced-a-major-growth-spurt-and-my-wardrobe-can't-keep-up look. Not cute at 14, not cute now.

there's nothing wrong with extra long pants. big, long bells can even make you longer and slimmer. the problem with j-lo's pants is they are WAY too long. long pants that cover your foot should barely graze the floor. anything longer and you look stumpy.

Short pants break up the leg line-they are cute rolled up "sartorialist" style but the intention shouldn't be to make you look taller....long pants that have a nice long line should make you look taller as long as they don't break..Long lines=tall...very simple

Whatever the general theory, this is not a flattering photo. They don't just look too long, they look too big.

As a short person (5'3"), I will confirm that it's a fine line. Too long and you look frumpy, too short and you look stumpy.

I totally disagree with that statement... I am 5'10" and I wear superlong pants and they make my legs look even longer, and still proportionate to extra long torso. Those are my favorite pants ever!!!!!

Yeah, I have an inseam of about 35 inches, so it's really nice to have the long pants trend because I can now find a pair of jeans that FITS me a lot easier.

I will admit this is not J Lo's best. Long pants are great within porportion. She has a shorter torso and they look as if she's being eaten alive.
