Girls Gone Styled

Today’s Episode: Great Packing, Bad Hair

On today’s episode of Girls Gone Styled, I show you how to pack a suitcase for a fashionable trip…

The good: Now you have a preview of my London / Paris wardrobe.

The bad: Now you have a preview of my hair at its absolute worst!

The silly: Yes, I really did shove my deodorant stick into the soles of my Frye boots, but I’m telling you, it’s the only way to pack.

Consider this the last “What’s in your bag” - unless Coco Rocha is on the plane to Heathrow with me, and then I’ll see what I can do…

This totally gave me a flashback to a classic "Hey Dude" episode where either Brad or Melody's talent in the Miss Tucson pageant was demonstrating how to pack a suitcase efficiently.

Thanks for the tips!

Wow! I would've never thought to do it that way. Granted, my clothes are a lot bigger, haha. But that's really really cool. Especially the toiletries inside the boots.

I really want to see what Faran's clothes look like when she pulls them out of the suite case. I know that Faran knows her stuff, but I'm still really skeptical that they aren't going to be in a big bunchy wrinkly mess. I usually pack my stuff in a garment bag on hangers, and it still wrinkles.

Undies, pj's, heels, accessories.......where do these necessities fit in?

Faran I know you love your laptop as much as I do so I have to warn you about the laptop in the luggage. One of my best friends had her laptop stolen that way and she's still waiting for the airline to pay for it (that was six years ago).

While I did like the video and thought it was cute and useful for a weekend or four day trip perhaps, there is NO way you can take a suitcase like that to Paris or London for the shows unless you are hoping to borrow clothes while you are there or something like that.

All that fit in there was two dresses, a trench and a pair of boots and some toiletries.

Oooh, packing my computer in the check in luggage would really make me very nervous. I've had enough bad experiences with lost luggage to know never to pack away anything you will 1) absolutely need the next day 2) sob uncontrollably for if you never get to see it again.

Ahh, you guys, they cut away SO much of this video, including everything you're addressing!

I actually packed 8 dresses, 4 sweaters, 3 pairs of shoes, that coat, and all my makeup in that one suitcase on camera, but it didn't seem to make it into the segment!

I even had a part explaining that if your suitcase isn't carry-on (as that one is meant to be), you should keep it in a large handbag instead!

But I'll take some photos of my luggage once I get to London tomorrow, and post them on the site, so you can judge my methods for yourself.

Also, honestly, I don't have that many clothes, and I'd rather pack a small suitcase and get stuff drycleaned between London and Paris, then wear it again-

It's cheap enough if you bring it to a smaller place instead of using the hotel's service, and makes life much easier, at least for me.

Thank you so much faran, now I can pack my clothes so that i can still take my whole wardrobe! I'm going for a visit back to where I came from for 4-5 months and i kid you not when I said I'm taking my whole wardrobe. Currently I have clothes in one large bag, and my bags and shoes and accessories in the other but maybe, just maybe, i'll be able to fit them all in one. THANKS! (pray that i won't exceed the weight quota..)

Have a great weekend!

+X&O's!

I totally agree with Faran about not packing that much. I travel a lot for work (as an apparel sales rep, not nearly as glamourous as trotting the globe for fashion shows!) and my friends are always amazed at how little I pack. It's all about the layering so you can pack very little yet make it look different.
But I am so anal about my packing, not sure if I could pull off the whole 'lie it flat then fold it all over' thing. How would silk hold up?! I'll wait for the pics tomorrow!
Oh, BTW, Faran, I use Bumble and Bumble Brilliante too and it rocks!

i don't know about putting toiletries directly into my boots...i'd worry about them spilling or leaking and ruining the leather! i'd put them in ziploc bags first. and maybe i'm just being a germaphobe, but i would feel weird about putting the dirty soles of my boots up against my coat and dresses.

Good luck taking that bag with you to any airport. If you bring it carryon, they'll make you throw away all that product packed into those boots. If you check that shizz, it's bound to get stolen. BTW, airlines don't have to compensate for lost electronics in checked luggage.

These are some interesting tips and I'm glad to hear your suitcase with the laptop inside is a carryon and not something you are checking because I got really nervous for you!

I love the coat tip but would modify the boot packing strategy by placing them in dustbags (not comfortable with my city soles touching the interior of my coats or exterior of my dresses). I would also put the toiletries in plastic bags before going inside the boots just in case they spilled/leaked.

That said, if you are carrying on your toiletries, don't they have to go in a 1 qt plastic zip lock back to be examined by security? Plus you have to have your laptop out and in a separate bin for security to check before you can enter the airport terminals.
