Toms: Even Better Than the Iphone?

hooray for toms.jpg We love Toms shoes, not to mention its founder Blake Mycoskie, so we were thrilled to hear that he had been nominated for the Cooper-Hewitt People’s Design Award this year—

Along with the Iphone!

Mycoskie developed the shoe after a traditional Argentine design and vowed to give one pair to an Argentine child for each pair of Toms purchased.

We think the shoes are both comfortable and chic, which has made them the footwear of choice for stylish do-gooders like Lauren Bush.

Last year Mycoskie delivered over 8,000 pairs of shoes on a trip to Argentina and this year he’s heading to Africa hoping to drop off 50,000 pairs. On the Toms website you can choose your fabric and color (we love the red and white striped) or you can stop by Bird in Brooklyn or even Urban Outfitters to pick up a couple of pairs—for $38 a pop.

If you love these shoes as much as we do, don’t forget to vote for Toms!

now THIS is an excellent cause. like the famous basketball player who made an inexpensive shoe line for kids who cannot afford nike air jordans.......i know, i know, they were probably made by child labor....

it is an excellent cause, but i just do not find these shoes aesthetically pleasing at all. don't you think they'd sell even more of them if they were actually cute shoes?

ok, i looked at the website and it seems they have more options than when i looked at it months ago. i like this tweed looking one a lot more than the regular canvas style: http://www.tomsshoes.com/ProductDetails.aspx?CategoryID=7&productID=94

Toms are a wonderful idea for a wonderful cause. Unfortunately, they're so ugly I'd rather just donate my $38 to charity.

Rachel, you're referring to the Starbury shoe by Stephon Marbury, which is available at Steve & Barry's. In fact, the Starbury II is in stores now and it's only $14.98 - love it!!

They are definitely a look you have to get used to, but I'm all for putting my feet where my mouth is--so to speak--when it comes to getting globally conscious. More companies are doing stuff like this, like redlanernstyle.com

when you size down on these, and they stretch to fit perfect. theyre actually really cute. the tweed ones are perfect for all...but i own the classic navy ones.

nice walking flats + you feel great wearing them!
