You Change Your Look for Karl, But Do You Change It For Your Boyfriend?

soon she'll be wearing pasties.jpg Compare the two pictures at left: Evan Rachel Wood pre and post Manson. What a difference.

Evan says her romance with Marilyn has opened her up to fashion experimentation.

Her recent looks channel everything from Gothic Lolita to campy 1940s Vampirella; a far cry from her days with Jamie Bell, when she typified the perfect ingenue aesthetic of sweet, simple, and safe.

Changing your style as often as you change your boyfriend is not atypical in the celebrity world, though it does raise an eyebrow or two when you and your significant other become indistinguishable from each other.

Let’s observe.

—NATALIE GUEVARA

Kate Moss is famous for her singular style. But even she is not immune to the girlfriend/boyfriend style matching. When she dated Jefferson Hack, she was a glam girl to his chic dandy (they even had matching haircuts).

Kate and Pete were like Anita and Keith all over again; scarves, crazy prints, hats.

It’s hard to believe Katie Holmes is only 28, and not just because she had a kid and married one of the biggest movie stars in the world. With one of the speediest style transformations we’ve ever seen, Katie went from girl next door (jeans, cardigans, Banana Republic…)

To urban sophisticate faster than you can say “Xenu.” Now sporting matching bobs, the Cruise family is set for take-off.
after scientology.jpg
Kirsten Dunst and Jake Gyllenhaal were the most laidback of couples with their quirky boho California chic.

Kiki’s recent pairing with Razorlight frontman Johnny Borrell, however, resulted in a whirlwhind rock & roll romance, with the couple favoring bomber jackets and Ray-Ban Wayfarers.

over time, one's style might change. as do the company they keep. these two things often reflect each other and aren't really such an amazing discovery.

I have no problem with experimenting with fashion. Everyone should play around with different looks to find their own personal style.
Evan Rachel's a beautiful girl, no doubt, but given the recent pictures of her at the Toronto Film Festival, she's morphing into Marilyn's ex, Dita Von Teese.

I think it's inevitable that after a certain amount of time your going to have influence over each other. However, when you start looking like each other it's gone too far. I do want to say that I think in Katie Holmes case it may be more about growing up and discovering a more mature look than Tom telling her what to do. Just one girls opinion.

Tangentially, I miss the way Kate Moss dressed and carried herself back when she was with Hack. That was definitely her most original period, and her hair looked gorgeous close cropped.

Fun post! Yea, it's definitely a chicken and egg thing. Chicken is to egg as bfs are to a girl's style. (PS. I was kind of alarmed when I read "post Manson" b/c I thought it meant that ERW had broken up with him!)

my spouse definitely influenced my style, but more in the sense that he inspired me to zero in on it. I've always liked a certain look, but when I was younger I sometimes veered all over the place with it, being influenced by trends, etc. my spouse wears very specific things, and it helped me get back to my innate style.
