Backstage at Zac Posen, mounds of gowns. They were scattered around the room, each hugging a mannequin, each labeled for a model. The red one had a starburst bodice and flutter sleeves; the purple one had a shoulder pouf; the green one was short and shorn, with feathers shearing off the side. "I guess that makes sense," said a fashion editor in the audience, "since that's what he's really known for. And the Oscars will happen in February," right when the dresses are set to be made. Whomever does get to wear them - Gwyneth, Kate Hudson, or maybe Demi Moore, who scurried quickly to her seat at the show - will probably land on the Vogue Best Dressed List, as Anna Wintour clapped enthusiastically during the show. She also granted an interview to almost every outlet who approached her, signed an autograph, and let a young girl take her photo with a pink Polaroid camera. That Zac's dresses made us smile and gasp more than witnessing that strange situation means we must have totally loved them... and yeah, we really did.
