Fashion Week

First Look: Bless

Just before the Bless show, we were issued a warning:

“You may not want to sit in the front row. You might get hurt.”

At first we wondered if they meant we’d get emotionally hurt - if the clothes from the European design duo were so starkly startling, they might crack our hearts open too wide, like a pop song you sang for your ex boyfriend one night that streams into the radio, after the breakup, and sends you sobbing.

But when the show started, we realized no - they meant we might get actually hurt.

Why?

Because the show was actually a soccer game, with all the models furiously fighting for a goal - mere inches from our Miu Miu heels.

It was so unexpected, and so amazingly fun, that when the ball was hurled at our camera, our feet, our face, we just sort of laughed.

Now we have a huge bruise on our shin, but that’s the coolest wound we’ll ever get.

After the show, we walked with the fashion editor of Self Service Magazine. “That’s the best way to show your clothes are wearable, I guess,” she mused. “Make the models actually move.”

“Yeah,” we answered, “And since they played soccer on the first day of the shows, we can totally say they kicked off Fashion Week.”

Once you’ve recovered from that horrible joke, pay particular attention to the photos silk-screened on Bless’ fabric - a technique we also saw in London that looks exciting and modern, but not overdone.
