High waisted denim for boys and girls; long swishy skirts spangled with stars; tweed in red, white, and blue fine stripes; Karl Lagerfeld watching Dirty Dancing in his atelier. At least, that’s how it felt to us, but we also know the Chanel show is about much more than the clothes:
It’s about the way you walk into the Grand Palais and immediately get handed a bottle of perfume.
Your seat has your name in calligraphy, and a silver star sticker, which you stick irreverently on your forehead, fourth-grade style.
Courtney Love’s hair has been blown out into gold, and it gleams six rows in front of you. Also, Claudia Schiffer, Rachel Bilson, Kirsten, Posh. Coco opened and Natalia closed; it looked like Karolina Kurkova also made a cameo.
Karl Lagerfeld actually came out on the runway before the show, and entered into a giant ceramic bow that served as the set. He didn’t come out, but when the music started, the models streamed from it one by one.
After the show, the photographers freaked and we almost got crushed. We meandered eventually outside and spoke with Scott Schuman about how the light in Paris really is different; it attaches to people in photos like they’re spooked.

We forgot we had that silver star attached to our forehead until after we said hello to Linda Wells from Allure and Tonne Goodman from Vogue.
