Gwen Gets Tanked

kingston.jpg We’re Apple girls at Fashionista, but that doesn’t mean we don’t admire and adore the HP ads, especially the new campaign with Gwen Stefani.

Besides their fizzy images of Tokyo street life, the commercials have the adorable image at left of Gwen in a Kingston tank.

The shirt references the crazy Kitson moment of early 2000, when celebrity tees screamed “Mrs. Pitt” and “Mrs. Timberlake” and (our favorite) “Mrs. Brody.”

But Gwen’s tee seems cooler, and slightly tongue-in-cheek. We wonder if ours could say “Nicolas” or “Alber” or “Lazaro…”

Or maybe, “Sorry babe, but only rock stars get to wear blazing, tight wife beaters. Nice try, though.”

I loved the Vera Wang HP commercial. It's so much better than her commercial for Serta. I'm still confused about that partnership.

It's the name of her baby boy.

Or is she referencing herself, when she wore a white tank with "No Doubt" written in the same Old English font in 1996/97?

That trend was not from that long ago, it definitely wasn't from early 2000 -- Adam Brody wasn't even famous until 2003/2004. Duh.

I don't think she's referencing that trend, I don't think it's meant to be that clever. It's just a shout-out to her son.

Gwen has been wearing wife-beaters with old english on them since she burst on the scene in the mid-90s. During Tragic Kingdom and beyond, her shirts have read "GWEN" and "ANAHEIM" among others. It's nothing new.

Kiki , definitely not. Whenever we run posts about our sponsors, they're clearly marked as ads, and have a tag underneath that says "this is an ad."

Faran, well.. you are right that your ads are clearly marked...

I just find that interesting since I often see the HP Gwen's Harajuku Doll ad running on the website..

Well.. .your site is free, so I do expect to look at Ads and stuff... but I am sure hope none of these entries are bias/censored due to commercial reasons....

I do think your blog is the most interesting/creative of all blogs out there... so Bravo

Ummm... I didn't think that the tank was any major trend, or trendy boutique, just the name of her son.
