Intern Sabrina Asks: “Do You Wear the Same Thing Every Day?”

The Sartorialist Is Amazing.jpg
So it’s a well known fact that many celebrities will repeatedly wear the same outfit in order to drive down the asking price of paparazzi photos.

But what do you do when the repeat outfit offenders aren’t famous, but merely a pack of rich Parsons girls who seem to invest in just one ensemble.

Every day: the same patterned dresses, same shoes, same bag, same tights, same blazer, same sunglasses… it reminds us of the Gossip Girl chapter where Blair is depressed, but it also makes us wonder:

When do you wear the same thing every day?

And why?

—SABRINA BACON

Editor’s note from Faran: I wore the same thing for three days in Paris. It was the white dress from Kate Moss for TopShop, with sneakers. I had a trench coat on during all of the shows, so nobody saw it anyway.

i rotate a few items around and often refer to it as my "uniform" which are basic, classic with a twist and black. wearing the same patterned dress everyday is not something i would do. basics are designed to be worn frequently and if you own good ones why not wear them every day? normal people do not have free clothes thrown at them nor should they have to feel like they need to compete. and with the prices of retail triple what they used to be you have got to be crazy to spend serious $ if you aren't planning on wearing frequently or everyday.

I do wear the same thing everyday: my Levis, a black t-shirt, my black VANS, and my Prada bag. In an issue of Vogue a few months ago (their Age issue) they had a feature on their Paris editor, and she said when you find your style and stick with it, you never age. I'm not sure I agree with that, but I do believe in creating a persona that people can remember you by once you are gone. Even more so, those times that you do wear something different, it's SUPER special.

If I really like an outfit and I know I'm not going to see any of the same people for a few days, I'll totally double. Especially if its a dress that can be worn with slightly different shoes or jewelry or something. Just try not to take too many pictures!

not me! I have a different persona everyday, depending on my mood and what inspires me. it can be a photo, a movie, the weather, your blog, someone i see on the street, or my fantasy of just thrown on cool walking the dog in the morning in nyc (which i do every day on the upper west side). I always ask myself "who do i want to be today?" I have to admit that sometimes my outfit feels so great, so in sync with my personality, that i want to repeat, but i always feel that i am cheating myself (like i can't make a decision about who i am), so i don't do it. but i do repeat, maybe a couple of weeks later, always tweaking the original version a bit. Does that make me certifiably insane?

I can't imagine wearing the same outfit every day--how boring! i would want to kill myself. my outfit is such a reflection of my mood, or even indicative of how my day will go. it's kind of like putting on a new costume every day. today was "lumberjack bobby." who knows what tomorrow will be haha. --B

no way would I wear the same thing everyday...maybe the same trinket, like my chanel earrings or the same purse, but never the same outfit...I'd feel like a total loser

last year i had a basic uniform of jeans and tees (im a highschooler) but this year i decided to be creative. i bought a whole bunch of new clothing with money i earned babysitting and now ive been dressing to fit my mood everyday. i love it, and it makes me feel so much better about the day!

I absolutly adore the idea of wearing basically the same thing every day - it's a look, and if you're into it....be into it.

I'm wearing the exact same outfit I wore yesterday...black button down and black pencil skirt. I was working out of a different office so I know I won't see any of the same people. If you know something works on you I say wear it as often as possible.

I think Europeans just have different hygiene standards than Americans (no one else notices this??). Their approach--buying a single, designer outfit per season and sticking to it--is SO much better than buying a gajillion outfits from H&M, but unfortunately people would start to talk if someone kept wearing the same thing in America.

My nine-year-old son does that. But that's because he's into snakes and lizards and cannot be bothered with fashion. I, on the other hand, do not do that. My clothes might share certain characteristics but they are not the same. Sort of like sisters. My wardrobe is like an extended family. OK, need more coffee....

When I got to Sweden, I wore the same outfit for a week (black waffle tank, gray jeans, ankle boots), but that was because I locked all of my posessions in a locker at central station and then lost the key.

Guilty as charged! I often wear the same thing to the office on Monday mornings that I wore to dinner on Sunday night. It's already put together, lying there on my chair, and Monday mornings are rough enough without having to face the closet!

No, I don't wear the same thing every day.

I'm sorry but I cannot imagine anyone wearing the same thing twice, say, within a 1-week span, especially for hygeine reasons. It's quite disgusting actually. While I understand people have to wear the same coats and jackets several times before they send them to the cleaners, the thought of wearing the same sweater, tee, shirt, etc a few times without it being cleaned is beneath me. How anyone can drag dirt, sweat, body odours, perfume, grime, smoke, pollution and bacteria amongst other things is DOWNRIGHT REPULSIVE.

I personally rotate amongst my stuff. Let's say I wore a top today, I won't wear it again at least for a few weeks (or at least when it gets laundried/dry cleaned).

No matter how you look at it, fashion has never been more afforable. I live in the Philippines where it's hot and humid. Changing clothes twice or thrice a day is the norm amongst everyone, regardless of financial status -- there's a 'day' outfit, a 'night' outfit (if ever you go out) and there's good ol' house clothes.

no I don't, I'm really picky about hygiene so I would feel uncomfortable repeating an item of clothing without washing it, but that's just my personal preference (I also feel gross if I don't wash my hair every morning so maybe its just some weird thing with me). Obviously there are some exceptions, I only own two coats (one super warm woolen one and one light trench that doubles as a raincoat) and there's no way I will ever be able to afford or have the time to get them cleaned every night. Also, sometimes if I wear a pair of jeans but don't go out of the house and don't sweat or anything gross like that I'll hang up the jeans to let them air and then wear them a couple days later. But otherwise I wont repeat an item of clothing more than once a week because (I don't do my laundry until Sunday).
