Lately, we can't walk down the block without running into a film set. It feels like Manhattan's been hijacked by trailers, craft services, and ensemble casts fighting for the city's prime locations. The pressing question is, how do we know which set we've found? Last week, we tripped over a three-inch cable on our way home, and looked up to see the wall outside Christie's plastered with extras. But even before we saw Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis walking down the block (all in flip-flops!) we knew we'd discovered the Sex and City movie. In what other universe do the women of Manhattan look so overdone? Then, on our way to work the next day, we noticed a familiar store had undergone a serious make-over. Rubin Chappelle had lost the sharp but neutral clothes that usually hang from his racks. We were looking at brightly colored party dresses instead. A few nosy questions told us we were now in the boutique of Eleanor Waldorf, the upper-east side mother from Gossip Girl. We turned the corner later that day, and ran into a different group of extras, at least a decade older than the Gossip Girls. We admired their outfits, scouted the location, and thought for a moment -- it had to be Cashmere Mafia. As if on cue, Lucy Liu and Patricia Field walked out of the costume trailer. We've read that the women in Mafia are all about power, and we definitely noticed a note of sophistication not seen on Field's past projects. Like you know your favorite show from just the opening tune, we've come to recognize our favorite sets from just the wardrobes. Now we're off to scout for the new Coen brothers movie with George Clooney and Brad Pitt, but it'll be hard - Clooney's cute, but he dresses like every other guy in Manhattan! --BRITT ABOUTALEB
