As with all of our great enemies, we spend a lot of time keeping track of Los Angeles. Of course, we know that New York is cooler, but we like to check in every so often and make sure L.A. isn't getting too big for its britches. It's totally not because we're jealous of their weather, palm trees, beaches, burritos, and so on. While L.A. fashion used to mean American Apparel, brightly-colored yoga pants, and ridiculous designer sunglasses, even we have to admit that L.A. has been producing some pretty cool designers lately. With L.A. fashion week starting this Friday, it's a comfort to know that even the L.A. Times has to admit: "IF the fashion weeks held in New York, London, Milan and Paris could be compared to a four-course gourmet meal (London being the ho-hum albacore dish), L.A. Fashion Week might be the cupcake at the end -- frivolous in comparison, but still tasty" But with Jeremy Scott, Gregory Parkinson, and the dude from Project Runway (Jeffrey Sebelia) showing in L.A., is it only a matter of time before NYC fashionistas start making the cross-country trek to the frivolous cupcake of cities? --ALISON COOL
