Fashion Is Fun

Marc Jacobs to Cathy Horyn, Suzy Menkes, bloggers: “Give Me a Break!”

Marc Jacobs needs pancakes
For those who haven’t kept up with the Marc Saga, here’s a brief run down:

Act One:
First he gets slammed for a two-hour delay in New York. Suzy Menkes of the International Herald Tribune He calls WWD, curses at the press, says he’ll move his show to Paris. He won’t.

Act Two:
Next he debuts the Spring ‘08 line for Louis Vuitton, after almost a two-hour delay. This time, the show actually is in Paris, but the reaction’s the same: He gets booed for the wait.

Act Three:
On the Vuitton catwalk, Marc sticks out his tongue. Cathy Horyn blogs

Act Four:
Marc Jacobs posts a comment on Cathy’s blog. This is what it says:

I did NOT stick my tongue out at Suzy Menkes……I pulled a stupid face with my tongue out in happiness for being done with what has been a great but most stressful season for me. I am not stupid, childish or a vindictive person….I had prior to the show left a silly t-shirt and a nice note for Suzy on her seat. Why would I do anything to further upset her? Right after a show!!?? Cathy and all else reading this, I am surprised that anyone who knows me at all think that I am that petty or stupid! Anyone who has ever been on a stage would know you can’t actually see the audience. I made a face at no one in particular….I didn’t have a clue as to who was sitting there. Come on guys, give me a break!!!!!

Act Five:
Cathy confirms that the comment was indeed from Marc Jacobs. We jump up and down that Marc reads blogs, interacts with blogs, uses too many exclamation points.

Act Six:
We consider whether to buy another Marc dress, even though we already know the answer is yes.

Lylli, you are soooo right. This is getting ridiculous! Even if he did deliberately stick his tongue out at Suzy, it's not like he flipped her the bird!
And enough with the MJ psycho-anaylsis on OTR (comments, I'd never speak poorly of Cathy!) I'm so sick of some of the people who post on Cathy's blog....they are full of hot air and full of themselves, and only like to hear themselves talk,er, type.

Wendy B., if Mark bitches you out, that would make you more of my hero than you already are :) ! But I just don't see him doing it. He seems too silly and sweet.

I am lightened up, M. It's the people who post on OTR that need to lighten up!

I have a Marc Jacobs sweater that he made as his graduation project from Parsons and he was working in the now defunct store Charivari. (this was in the 80s) I have a feeling it will be worth something some day, so i have it neatly packed away. It is a stretched out knit oversize sweater with circles knit into it. He was inspired by the sweaters that his grandmother made. Maybe i will pul it out to wear with skinny pants this season. it still looks fresh. Even though he gets inspiration from past looks and other designers, he re- invents them and makes them new. Isn't that what real fashion is? He's a genius!

I love Marc! Not only is he a fashion genius, but he's happy to show his human side, speak his mind and even have a little bit of fun. I have loads of respect for Cathy Horyn - but I'm pretty sure that she misjudged Marc this time.
