Cavalli Roars for H&M

cavalli hm3.jpg
Shocker: Roberto Cavalli’s H&M ads are drenched in animal print.

The leopard-clad models are draped over leopard print chairs, pillows and rugs in an ornate spread that screams Cavalli, but not so much H&M —

Until we took a closer look at the actual clothes.

The fabric looks typical of the mass-brand’s stock: a little bit shiny, a little bit itchy, and if your cell phone scrapes against your dress, it looks like the thing could snag.

We kept our eyes peeled for Leigh Lezark’s first major campaign shot, but all we saw was a striking picture of Lydia Hearst in the corner, prompting Faran to utter, “Halston!”

We think Cavalli’s clothes have always represented a very specific lifestyle, one that’s so glamorous and luxurious that it almost looks like a cartoon.

The ads represent that lifestyle, but we’re waiting to see the clothes in real life before we pass final judgment on whether H&M Cavalli can live up to the dream.

I would totally buy it, and wear leopard in moderation, but it looks like the fabric will look really cheap. :(

designers like proenza and viktor and rolf can do these mass market lines because it's still interesting to translate their aesthetic and sensibility into less expensive fabrics and simpler cuts. translating sexy, skin tight, low cut, and animal prints into less expensive fabrics and cuts is unfortunately much less interesting because, well, those elements are already the backbone of the cheap-looking dress market! i'd love for this to work but i'm thinking a lot of it will look like frederics of hollywood-wear

I still remember the first day that the Chloe line was sold in the HM on 5th avenue. I never thought women could go so wild...
Chances are most of the items will sell in one day anyway. No time to check quality when you are trying to grab a blouse from a rack and there are ten other women who want to grab it too...

I can appreciate the debauchery of the campaign, very eurodisco, too Ibiza....I don't think Leigh's advert for eastpak backpacks counts, unless your in high school. I think this Cavalli/HM collaboration will appeal to those that can't afford Cavalli, Just Cavalli and lack the personal style to throw this sort of look together.

I think I might pass. The only H&M designer line I liked was Stella in 2005.

That cream wool suit is gorgeous, as is the woman modeling it. Go cougars go!

the first zebra dress looks really cute but its wierd to start shopping in a store like h&m when you think of it as a 'cheap' store
