Shiny, Pretty Things

Let’s talk about sequins.

Like that girl with the little curl, when they’re good they’re very, very good, and when they’re bad they’re horrid.

The horrid variety usually find their way onto “nightclub” ensembles, glued on to sheer and very tight black transparent things that we hesitate to even call clothes.

And the very, very good sequins can be found in NYC-based designer Jen Kao’s debut fall collection. Delicate shimmering sequins in subdued metallics transform a well-cut jacket into a stand-out, must-have piece for the cooler months.

We see it layered over minidresses and wooly tights or paired with casual black skinny jeans.

It’s glamorous in a vaguely Edie Sedgwick way, like what she would wear if she were alive now and riding her bike around Bushwick, working on her video art MFA.

—ALISON COOL

[editor’s note: Faran thinks if Edie Sedgwick were alive today, she’d be living in an overpriced Soho studio and only go to Brooklyn with a driver, but okay…]

Ummm but have you seen the tank, tank dress, and slouchy sexy chic hooded dress Jen does? The whole collection is TDF.
And spring is less edgy but no less delectable.
