We finally got around to watching The Hills tonight, and our favorite part was this:
When Kate Waters, the Vice President of PR at Marc Jacobs, offered Lauren some different shoes.
She actually said, “I bet you didn’t think you’d be doing [casting and styling] today – do you want a different pair of shoes?”
Cut to the perfectly placed row of Marc footwear.
Never mind that most of those shoes are just as hard to wear as Lauren’s throwback Carrie Bradshaw pumps – industrial boots with plastic five-inch heels make everything easier!
It was amazing, and also:
We loved the streaming tally of New York fashion babes that ran through the episode.
A complete catalog of them is below… plus a shot at those kill-for-me shoes (Marc’s, not Lauren’s – but you knew that).

Chanel Iman and Bobby Wiens wait for a casting session…

Can you spot Sasha P. in this screen shot?

Teen Vogue web editor EJ Samson!

Teen Vogue fashion director Jane Keltner.

Kate Waters gets the same caption treatment as Lo.

You’ve all met Kimball, right?

Take the hint, Lauren.

KCD superstar Michelle Lee.

Our heroine, Venetia Scott.

Whitney demonstrates “Take Your Prom Dress to Work Day.”

Marc Jacobs has the coolest clothing label in the world, a pair of Juicy blue sweatpants, and an ass that puts TImberlake to shame. Oh my.

this ep was so good! i don’t care if it’s fake…because that dress was just ridiculous.
Loved that they were in New York this episode and that we got to go inside Marc…but does anyone else think Lauren is totally inept? When she meets Marc, supposedly her favorite designer, she acts cold and unfriendly. She doesn’t even stand when she shakes his hand which is beyond rude. Its just so absurd that she has been handed amazing oppurtunities like this time and time again, and she continues to take it all for granted. There are so many people who would embrace a chance like this, and she acts almost annoyed that she has to.
I love the show, don’t miss an episode, but am getting a little annoyed at Lauren’s complacency.
I totally agree with you Rachael. I couldn’t believe that Lauren barely looked at Marc when he introduced himself. Has she never heard of common courtesy?
I agree with Rachael as well. She has to pretend to do fashion work for, what, 20 minutes a day and she just rolls her eyes all the way through. I, too, was mad when she didn’t stand up to meet Marc. Oh, and he does have an amazing ass.
is sasha the one with the hat and skinny jeans? or the one standing up? or…where is she?!
Well Lauren was actually in New York for most of Fashion Week, and she supposedly helped out backstage during his runway show. There was even a rumor that Marc asked her to model for him. So in real life, they had probably already met. If you watch the episodes carefully, you can tell that Lauren is getting increasingly blase about “acting” during some of the more obviously staged scenes.
Maybe Lauren was just overwhelmed with meeting Marc Jacobs. She tried to play it cool but in my opinion it came off as “i’m not sure what to do”. Poor thing.
I’ve never watched this show before, but I may have to see this episode! Look how cute Marc looks!
Ya Lauren is clearly not a talented actress. I admit it must be pretty bizarre to re-do actual events in your life. I think it was the episode before this one when she went on a date with that model she met at a casting. Well after the date they show her walk into her apartment, sit down on her couch and call Brody. Thanks fo Tivo my roommates and I quickly rewinded to notice that not only was her hair much more curled at the end of the night, her nails had been painted when they were bare during the date. Its as if days later they filmed that clip.
Now that I sound like a total Hills junkie I’m giong to stop posting. I think its more than clear that I care a little too much about so-called reality shows on mtv.
I know I’ve seen that dress that Lauren is wearing somewhere (everywhere) but I can’t remember who makes it…Can someone remind me?
Okay can we discuss that they took a cab from their Times Square W hotel to Teen Vogue. So they told the cab to circle the block? Or how she told the cabbie she was in a rush, like that would do something? Oh it cleared the streets of NY some how for a perfect aerial view. I’ll be sure to use that line next time I’m in a rush.
This show is so ridiculously flawed. Also Marc and Laurens “meeting” was so awkward it was painful. I couldn’t tell who was a worse actor!
Honestly… I find that Lauren is starting to irk me! I mean she is moving up in a industry that people have to fight to get into, then have to fight to get to the level she is at now and she acts all nonchalant about things because… I don’t know does she expected it now. I mean get up and shake the man’s hand, look him in the eyes and act like you have class and manners!!! Grrr… all I know is if I was given the opportunity like Lauren’s, I would be running Teen Vogue by now!
P.S Did you guys notice the first minorities ever on the show? It is the black female model sitting and the Asian giving Lauren directions on what she should be doing. I mean how can you film a show with no minorities and in LA?? Sorry it is just sad! I think they would mostly get more viewers if there are more minorities… oh well another topic.
I too was appalled by Lauren’s behavior. I understand that she has become accustomed to extreme privilege and has probably met him before, but there is no excuse for setting that example of such lack of professionalism. Her snarky on-camera remark about alphabetizing when Marc Jacobs was gracious enough to make conversation with her was just plain RUDE.
Whitney’s presentation was so hard to watch (and not just because of the ridiculous outfit choice). I wish they showed more of it because she must have done alright to yield the good review from AA.
Those editors are constantly making the women look like complete twits. I wonder if it bothers them. I guess their MTV paychecks are meant to soften the blow.
Oh and Whitney’s presentation was pitiful and confirmed that I could run teen Vogue.
i think i’ve caught 1 or 2 episodes of this show and was bored to tears so i never thought to look at it again. now that i know she entered the marc world i hope to catch a rerun. if only so i can drool about the fact that apparently she got to meet marc & venetia!
You can also spot who I think is Daul Kim next to Chanel Iman in the first shot. The best episode of the Hills ever, I’m even tempted to watch it again, although it’s so fake.
And did anyone else think, even though Lisa Love said she did great, that Whitney bombed the meeting from what was shown? Everyone in the meeting seemed unimpressed, so was this just savvy editing?
Also, I thought that was a rumor about Marc asking Lauren to model for him spawned by her helping out at the casting? I, for one, am so glad that turned out to be false!
I do not believe that Marc Jacobs ever asked Lauren Conrad to model for him. I’m sure they’ve met in real life before filming since everything on the hills is staged but if I were around Marc Jacobs I would ALWAYS be super excited and polite and ready to do anything he asked. No matter how many times I’d met him. Doesn’t she claim to want to be in fashion as a career? You have to show a willingness to do anything. Acting bored and too cool (even if it is while you’re filming your fake reality show) isn’t going to impress anyone.
i’d say sasha is the one on the far left.
THANK YOU! I wondered about who those models were…
But Marc’s sweats are not Juicy (ewww). They’re Free City. Thanks for the West Coast nod Marc!
jane is fashion news director! gloria baume (also made a quick cameo) is fashion director.
cant believe lauren didnt stand!
i really dont think he would want lauren to model for him.he has the pick of some of the most amazing and skilled models in the industry and he would ask ” LC” to model insted? ehh I dont think so. Next..i think the show is fun to watch but it is so fake it sometimes makes me sick. I dont care if she is best friends with marc…you still dont sit down where someone who you are essentially working for, walks in. You stand up and great them…its just a matter of respect which Lauren clearly lacks.
Lauren’s dress was by Black Halo.
lol lauren was probably tired from doing ten takes of that scene that day, and that is probably why she didn’t stand for marc…….
The show is really quite staged, so like some of you said, Marc and LC prolly met before, and they knew each other. That little part where they were introduced is just for the sake of the show. We are only shown a very little part of the ‘big picture’ and whatever little is shown is very fake as well.
Remember that Gavin guy she met from the previous episode, he spilled the beans on how the producers of the show made him say this and that etc.
Jen–
rachael’s right: lauren’s dress is black halo; it’s called the jackie o dress.
