"I like it because it's sexy," said Ashley Parks about the Pussycat Dolls' image. Ashley is 10, and we're kind of disturbed that her definition of fashion comes from a manufactured girl-group whose members usually wear corsets and fishnets. When we were ten, the appropriateness of spaghetti strap tank tops was the fashion debate among parents. Fifteen years later, kids' fashion seems to be spiraling out of control, prompting one mom to write a book titled, Stop Dressing Your Six-Year Old Like a Skank. This is the best title ever. But here's the weird part: As little girls' clothes become increasingly provocative, women's high fashion is more conservative, to the point where some of the most expensive, most revered stuff - think Marni, Prada, and Chloe - makes you look like a very cool tent. Why are little girls wearing the clothes that scream sex, especially when women on magazine covers - Jennifer Connelly, Cate Blanchett, ever Scarlett Johansson - are covering up? How long will it take before the high fashion trends filter down to the moms who think playgroup is just extended sorority rush? Maybe it's up to the Disney Channel to convince girls that they can look cute and not slutty - if High School Musical can outsell those icky Pussycat Dolls, maybe Hannah Montana can wear some McQueen and start a revolution? --BRITT ABOUTALEB
