Would You Wear

Would You Wear a Top Hat?

sienna_slide.jpg

When it comes to hats, we think of ourselves as fairly open-minded. Fedoras, berets, wide-brimmed floppy or straw hats for the beach - all of these are acceptable and reasonably options.

But what about the top hat? US Weekly has a photo story showcasing celebs wearing tall hats, including Sienna in a black velvet number, and Mary-Kate sporting a satin topper.

We’ve always thought of top hats as reserved for Abraham Lincoln and the little dude on the Monopoly box.

Is this a trend that is so cool and visionary that we can’t even fathom it yet, or is the frenzied last hurrah of the hat; an apocalyptic celebration of its imminent demise?

This seems like one of those celebrity trends that's all about getting photographed -- those hats do make for some interesting, kooky pictures!

Not a trend for me though. Two words: hat hair! ;)

I think Sienna pulls this look off, but Mary-Kate looks like she's wearing a Slash/Axl Rose Halloween costume.

I wanna say no, but never say never. I guess it would depend where you were going, say a top hat convention...

Well, maybe Mary Kate's expression has something to do with all that dirt on her knee? What _has_ she been doing?

Yes! One must only know how to pull off the harmless yet eccentric anachronism. Females look better in a shorter style of top hat, and Mary-Kate's and Sienna's face shapes are particularly unsuited to what they are wearing.

Only if it's a proper top hat from Christys, or an older maker. Top hats are/were reserved for MONEY - AKA people who wear 3 piece morning suits because they are corporate presidents/business owners, people who have to look presentable, not commoner peasants. It should ONLY be worn in that context, with respectability and a long draping coat.
