Trompe Le Purse

il_430xN.13272349.jpg

Aesthetically, it’s nice to have fussy vintage needlepoint purses and wallets. But let’s face it - any wallet that lives in our purse is going to take a serious beating, so it better be sturdy.

We found this mini-bag, which you could use as a clutch or an oversized wallet over on Etsy, from Glasgow-based designer showpony, and it was love at first sight. The concept is genius - she screenprints a delicate drawing of a fussy vintage purse onto a thoroughly modern organic, fair trade cotton canvas wallet.

It’s the best of both worlds - cute design, practical form.

And guess what? It’s only $20!

etsy is definitely worth spending some time on. a lot of the things look a little too 5th grade art project for me, but some things are so great that is was worth spending a lot of time browsing. like this wallet. i love the name showpony, too. there is a store with that name in los angeles, though, they might not be too happy about it.

I look at the showcased sellers, the featured sellers, the birthdays, and sometimes the cool feature where you can pick stuff by color. The "treasury" feature is good, because the designers pick the featured items themselves. I love etsy!

I'm a seller on Etsy and love being there! It's even fun just to browse, but its a great place to get handmade things that you can't make yourself :) I make jewelry and also knit, but I've bought some wonderful sewn items that I could not do myself.
