Adventures in Copyrights: Strapped!

Even though we've worn the same Victorian-esque Jeffrey Campbell boots for the past two winters, we can't say we were surprised to see this mirror image of the Burberry Prorsum Studded Platform Sandal on Oak NYC today.

The studs are a little off, there's an adjustable strap rather than the little zipper in the back, and the copies just seem to have a patina of cheap turning us off from the look altogether.

But at a price difference of over $800, we have to wonder:

Is buying the original accessory a realistic idea? Or are these shoes so signature that there's just no substitute for designer studs?

Continuing with our in depth analysis of cheap shoes- I don't like it when shoes have that up-turned toe thingie happening. I think that it makes the wearer herslef look a teensy bit cheap :)

But I have heard that it can make them more comfy. Discuss!

These aren't signature at all. This look has been around in punk circles forever, and it's meant to look kind of cheap. Here are some similar ones: http://www.rebelgirlz.com/prod.php?pid=34

You can find shoes that don't look different from these all over the West Village.

If it's studded shoes you must have, then I'd rather Givenchy ones which are a bit more unique ... http://www.kristopherdukes.com/2007/10/18/givenchy-studded-shoes

I think I'd just stick some studs in an old pair of heels if I really needed this look.

But I don't think I do.

800 dollars or no 800 dollars, who would possibly consider the oak NYC a piece that works into a functional wardrobe?

absolutely, natalie, the studs are totally off. it looks Cheap with a capital C.. i don't get it, wasn't halloween last week?

also if you click on oak nyc link, you'll see that the shoes from the front view have some unexplainable gap between the bands, which makes them look like they ran out of leather or something...

unlike the burberry sandals which at least make the studded straps look polished (that is if you like these shoes to begin with... which.. eh...?)

Personally, I am not a fan of the Burberrry Prorsum shoe...so the knockoff doesn't bother me too much...HOWEVER, if we are talking about just the pure construction of the shoe, then the knockoff is wayyy off...aside from looking like the original, the craftsmanship and quality is not in the same stratosphere! But hey, $800 can buy you alot of quality and craftsmanship...
