Do You Have a Shopping Registry?

wish list main.jpg
We recently received a congratulatory gift that was absolutely perfect for us. The clothes were the exact right size, color, and pretty much exactly what we wanted. But how did the gifter know to get us those Chip & Pepper jeans and Generra sweater in the first place?
By visiting our registry, of course!
Throughout the years, we’ve maintained wish lists on sites like ShopBop and Urban Outfitters, updating our selection almost daily.
Of course, we don’t actually keep these lists for gifting purposes- we like to think of it as Fantasy Sports for shoppers, like a video game where your mission is to choose the best wardrobe possible, with only the stuff from the site. The level of difficulty is determined by how tepid the selection – like, playing Wishlist on Bergdorf Goodman is way easier than playing Wishlist on Anthropologie.
Are we alone in this?
Or does everyone secretly play this game?

I definitely play the wishlist game. It’s also great for waiting for stuff to go on sale. I got a dress on sale for $85 marked down from $280!!

I do too, have since my Delia*s buying early teens.
But I never send them out. I use them, as Katie H mentions, as a tracking system for things I want. Wishlists make it very easy to pounce on something you’ve been wanting for a while JUST as it goes on sale.

I sent my Kiki de Montparnasse wishlist to my boyfriend to see what he likes and can then go ahead and buy for me.

I love this game! (Except instead of separate lists I just use Kabodle or ThisNext to consolidate.) I’ve decided it’s “greener” to fantasy shop then buy a ton of stuff I don’t need and won’t use — plus it’s way nicer on my wallet!

YES! You can put together a big wish list from all the websites on TheThingsIWant.com or StyleHive.com. It’s so convenient, and much easier than having to go to a bunch of different sites.

I totally do this too!
Neiman’s is my favorite, and it’s definitely a great way to wait out a markdown!

So if the lists aren’t for gifting purposes, how did your gifter get a hold of yours? Are you like me and are only not embarrassed to send it to your mom, and she bought you a congratulatory present for your new job? I feel like that’s what mine would do.
Congratulations, ps. :)

I definitely have a wish list, but it’s not with an online registry– it’s just a folder in my Favorites called “Stuff To Buy”. There are house, jewelry, and gift folders within it, and (of course) a folder for clothes. It’s a great way of putting my clothing wants and needs in perspective, and for waiting out a markdown.

We recently launched a site for creating wishlists, and you can use it at any store on the web:
http://wishlisting.com/
For a lot of stores we also support price-tracking, so you’ll know as soon as the price of the item drops.
If you get time to check it out, we’d appreciate any feedback you might have.

it’s amazing that “we” received a pair of jeans and a sweater. how are “we” going to wear this outfit? timeshare? all squeeze in? it’s also so awesome that “we” all could decide on “what we wanted.” usually when you have more than one person, there’s dissent.

I keep a wishlist on This Next (http://www.thisnext.com/by/superflippy/wishlist/). I also use my recommendations list to bookmark things I think would be nice gifts. That keeps them separate from my other bookmarks, and come gift-giving time, I can just go back and skim the list instead of trying to remember where I saw that skirt I thought my sister-in-law would like.

Thank you Praline, the only reason I come to this blog is to watch the commenters make fun of you amazingly bitch and snobby editors.

Hi “Anonymous,”
Actually, you’re on this site quite often to ask questions, so thanks for reminding me: When you asked yesterday if Kate Middleton wasn’t already at Tom Ford, I forgot to answer:
Although Vogue reported that rumor a few months ago, it never happened. Kate was at Jigsaw until last week, when she quit to pursue photography (or marriage?) full time.
Enjoy!
