Our grandparents had “Who’s on First?” and now, maybe, we have “Who’s On Hearst?”, an inadvertent fashion comedy routine presented by The New York Times.
They’ve got a story today on how It Bags are like New York real estate - irresistible, overpriced, and ultimately doomed. The piece is excellent, as is its writer Eric Wilson, but despite its sliver-sharp theories on the Stam-as-Condo, we laughed harder than a Jon Stewart audience when we read it.
Below are some choice quotes that maybe show you why:
“The Uptown, the Downtown and the Muse are designs from Yves Saint Laurent, not buildings by André Balazs.” - Eric.
“Some people still carry the Muse bag… They think the Muse is hot, because they’re kind of behind.â€? - Lauren Goodman, Domino Magazine.
“The luxury market is so over the top now that it is demented. I call them limo bags. I don’t have a limo.â€? - Elizabeth Kiester, Le Sportsac.
“The latest versions are hybrids… [like] the Chanel-Asfour-Gucci (a circular quilted bag with a red-and-green stripe).”
Seriously, we want to print these all on bumper stickers.

I never buy 'it' bags, because you spend so much money on them, and then they're deemed as 'out' within about a month. Plus you get assholes saying things like, "Some people still carry the Muse bag... They think the Muse is hot, because they’re kind of behind."
