Knit But You Know It

floppy sweater.jpgAs avant-garde fashion goes mainstream, we’ve noticed a growing trend: the crazy sweater.

Giles Deacon, Stella McCartney, and Karl Lagerfeld have all indulged in the floppy knit phenomenon, in all of its giant-sleeved, asymmetrical-buttoned glory.

But if you don’t want to shop the runway, take this sweater from KAROO Mark Eisen.

It looks really comfy and cozy, and its dark gray hue would work with a wide range of colors.

But how long can the crazy sweaters reign supreme on the winter wear scene?

Will there really be another winter when we can snuggle up in the crazy sweaters of yesteryear without looking so… yesteryear?

When it comes to sweaters, do you like to invest in the classics – turtlenecks, crewnecks, cardigans – or do you gravitate towards the wild and oddly-sleeved offerings of late?

If you get this comment more than once, I apologize but the thing was telling me that I wasn't registered or something.

Anywho, I love big crazy sweaters but am hesitant to buy them because they don't fit well under coats.

Also, they tend to warm you unevenly...I often end up with cold arms and sweaty pits!

When I saw that this post was about crazy sweaters, I remembered a sweater I bought in middle school. It was kind of a dusty rose color and had a wide neckline and buttons going all the way down it, but it said on the tag that you could wear the sweater either way--with the buttons in the front or the back. So I, of course, wanting to be an avante garde 7th grader in Nebraska, always wore the buttons in the back. And how the children laughed!

I'm especially partial to the Loomstate for Barney's Green and Vince versions... malheureusement my cat also found them just as comfy and cozy- and the Vince was subsequently retired last week.
P.S.: The Streets would be so proud!
