Wearing Many Hats

md 2.jpg

As the weather is getting undeniably chillier, we’ve begun contemplating our hat options.

Wandering around browsing through shops and boutiques, we’ve noticed the two main trends in winter headgear are the big fluffy knitted beret or the wool fedora.

Faced with such a vexing choice, we turn, as we often do in times of crisis, to some of our favorite old-fashioned film stars. “What would Anna Karina wear?” we ask ourself, and “How about Marlene Dietrich?”

The power of our imagination, and a quick bout of internet research, made things slightly clearer.

For an Anna Karina 60s Godard film winter casual look, we’ll wear a fluffy beret with a wool trapeze coat.

And to achieve the toughing-the-cold Marlene Dietrich hard-edged masculine glamour look, we’ll pair a wool fedora with a sharply cut dark-colored menswearish jacket or cape.

What’s your winter hat philosophy?

I wear a black wool beret. But sometimes I wear a knit cap that I made (in grey).

Anna Karina looks lovely there.

HatAttack's yacht caps are awesome - mustard yellow and red and blue plaid for me!

I agree with Liz - a cloche is always cute and classy!

I recently got a fedora that I'm itching to wear, but on days think to grab it before I leave, it never ends up matching. I'm starting to think I should have bought it in grey as well.

I've definitely noticed the beret trend (on the runways, especially) - I've asked my mom to dig out hers so I can wear them!
